Alabama legislator leaves GOP and becomes a Democrat - in defense of teachers
A Republican in the Alabama House of Representatives switched parties on Thursday, saying he left the GOP because of policies he felt targeted teachers.

Rep. Daniel Boman of Sulligent said he was a product of public education who represented a working class district.

“I was not comfortable with the legislation that has been targeted at teachers,” Boman said during an announcement by House Democrats and Mark Kennedy, chairman of the Alabama Democratic Party.

Boman, who represents all or part of Fayette, Lamar and Tuscaloosa counties, said the Wednesday vote on teacher tenure and Republican leaders pushing how members should vote contributed to his decision.

5. He will be one of few if any Democrats standing up for us.
Sadly.

But good for him anyway.
