It's official, we've lost the War on Drugs.
Time to pack it up, and start pursuing a sane, sensible drug policy that includes legalizing some, if not all, drugs.

"Political leaders and public figures should have the courage to articulate publicly what many of them acknowledge privately: that the evidence overwhelmingly demonstrates that repressive strategies will not solve the drug problem, and that the war on drugs has not, and cannot, be won," the report said."

It is time to end the madness. Frankly I think that we should legalize all drugs, yes, all. The damage our country has suffered from this insane war has cost us far too much, and it is time to bring it to an end.

1. We can't afford to wage it, anyway
I wonder if it will take 70 years to figure out the same with the "War on Terror"?

3. And yet, according to Salon
"The Obama administration has already dismissed the report. A spokesman for the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy said, 'Making drugs more available, as this report suggests, will make it harder to keep our communities healthy and safe.'"

Sometimes I thing Obama must assume that (D) next to his name on the ballot stood for "ditto."

5. the war on drugs was a war on the constitution
Edited on Thu Jun-02-11 09:37 AM by RainDog
4th amendment rights took a beating b/c of this long before any terrorist attacks.

sadly - the majority of Americans think the war on drugs is a lie - if you look at stats on mmj approval.

this is just another example of how our govt fails to represent our best interests - or, rather, represents the interests of the few at the expense of the many.

reading the history of this anti-scientific attack on a plant, specifically, has been a real learning experience for me - a moment when I no longer viewed the govt as working to create a better nation - but instead working to create another Hobbesian politically-motivated nightmare

7. It was never winnable
because it goes against human nature.

Human beings have a reflexive consciousness - a consciousness that is aware of itself and curious about itself. People have used psychoactive plants to alter that consciousness since the time of cave dwellers. Humans are curious, pleasure-seeking creatures, and that is that.

More failure to understand just what human beings are, just like the anti-sex crusaders.

Only f@#$%^g idjits and those who profiteer off of criminalization do not realize these things.

8. Shhh, it was never about winning or losing it
it was about power... and fortunes. It will not stop. Why? Way too many people on BOTH SIDES have made fortunes. It will stop ONLY when there is no more money, or police state needs for it.

Yes, call me cynical, but as a front line vet... I think I got the cred to say... this was bunk from the word go

9. Got that right. Totally bunk from the get go.
It was never about winning or losing, it was about creating a prison system mighty enough for the world to tremble at the very mention of it - and for that they succeeded. We lock up more than the entire world combined. In that area, they won.

11. In other news, water is wet
The War on Drugs was lost on day one. It was nothing more than Prohibition Part II.
