NEW tobacco product. Tobacco sticks. Interesting.....parents angry

A new tobacco product being sold in Kansas has prompted warnings from state health officials, who say the tiny "smokeless tobacco sticks" could pose a danger to children.

Altria Group Inc., the parent company of Philip Morris USA and U.S. Smokeless Tobacco Co., recently began test-marketing the tobacco-coated sticks at select retailers in Kansas, including Wichita, said company spokesman Ken Garcia.

The sticks, sold in matchbook-like packs under the brand names Marlboro and Skoal, are aimed at adult smokers and snuff users who want a smokeless, spit-free alternative, Garcia said.

1. Camel Sticks contain about three times the nicotine of an average cigarette?
That's potential for serious addiction. How is this legal?

2. as a smoker, I didn't even know this product was out there
I may purchase a pack to see what it is like, if it would help me NOT smoke, and it is cheaper, I might try it

3. I'd imagine the risks of smokeless tobacco are all still there.
Snus have been around for a while not for those who wish to use smokeless tobacco without having to spit.

Personally, I'll take the e-cig over smokeless tobacco any day.

6. Brilliant idea by tobacco companies...
I don't endorse it. I think it's downright evil. But it is smart marketing. It'll be interesting to see if it succeeds.

16. The packaging looks more like they're shooting for the elementary crowd.
And to make things worse, most places that sell them put them in an obvious location near the register where kids are most likely to spot them. The tobacco industry has to continually replenish its addicts since their products are rather efficient at killing off the long-time customers.

15. ... and then shut down McDonalds, the beer wine and spirits industries
etc, etc ... they are killing even more of the "government's taxpayers". BTW, it would be nice to be considered a citizen, rather than a revenue source for the government.

Edited on Thu Jun-02-11 06:42 PM by AsahinaKimi

Pocky is very popular with kids,.. I just can't believe they made them look like that. If some kid thought they were pocky, I would imagine they would get very sick eating them. Yikes...

12. Oh wow, they do look like pocky
That's really dangerous. I could see a young child mistaking dad or mom's nicotine for it. Hopefully parents will be responsible enough to keep it out of reach if they truly feel the need to consume it at all.

20. Any one over a certain age remembers when there
were candy cigarettes in the same array of brands smoked by our parents.

Anyone recall when they were made illegal?
