I'd laugh my entire unruly light skinned Black ass off, forward the pic to friends and when they see it I'd laugh my entire unruly light skinned Black ass off again. I'd do that until I got tired of it.

I'd create a sophomoric nickname for the Republican and I wouldn't waste an opportunity not to make fun of him.

BUT WHAT I WOULDN'T DO: Demand he resign, act like he committed a federal crime and act like he is the only one in Congress with freaky ass proclivities.

Oh yeah and I'd laugh my entire unruly light skinned Black ass off again and again and again.

1. If he were some kind of self-appointed family values poster child...
...I might suggest he resign.

3. personally, I think we have entirely too many REAL
issues and problems in this country to worry about non-issues like some congressman's dick. These things just serve to distract us from the real issues. Maybe that's the point. Anyway, from now on, unless it involves children or coercion, I will pay no attention to the so-called "sex scandals". (I will probably, however, also laugh at the poor bastards a little).

5. Would you ever take him seriously though?
Or wouldn't he forever be the butt of your jokes?

Who can take Vitter seriously? When I look at him all I think about is diapers.

He point is Weinet can no longer be an effective advocate.

7. I bet you when he stood up in Congress and spoke to his base, the same way Weiner speaks . . .
. . .to his base they would respond.

Let's be honest that when Weiner is speaking truth to power his base responds. A dick pic ain't going to change that for me.

Face it, if you want someone to convert people's thinking, he is probably no longer your go to guy.

He is an unabashed partisan, independents don't like that style, I doubt too many independents were converted by him before.

20. He sounded mainstream progressive to me.
If you think no one can be moved that way because it comes across as too partisan then you've just consigned the progressives to the heap.

9. About politics? Why not? I've known too many people who are
subject matter experts in their area yet do incredibly stupid things in ordinary life. I don't understand why the brain you use to do math or science or whatever can't be applied to everyday matters, but some people just aren't wired that way. It's as if their reasoning abilities are very domain-specific.

17. He's a vote. That's enough.
It's pathetic that he threw away his potential as a serious representative of the left in this country, but he did. He's still a vote in Congress, however, and that's fine.

I'll root for them if they're half as good at public advocacy as Weiner was, and hope they can manage to keep their dick off the internet. But he should not resign.

30. The reason to not take Vitter seriously is because the guy hasn't
had a coherent, intelligent, original thought in 30 years - not because he wears a diaper.

The reason you can only think about a diaper when you see him is because he has presented no reason to think of anything else.

6. I think there's one aspect that is not so laughable
It would be totally laughable if this whole incident were entirely in the private realm. But elected officials with Twitter or Facebook accounts are a little different than you and I. Their followers are generally people who are interested in the politics, are constituents, etc. When the elected official starts privately contacting followers, unsolicited (and it sounds like several of these incidents were at least initially unsolicited), it verges on an abuse of power.

Let me give you a hypothetical example. My alderman asked to "friend" me for his Facebook page a year or so ago. I guess he sent out similar requests to people who have volunteered for his campaign in the past, contributed, or receive his weekly email newsletter. I wasn't really all that interested since I read the newsletter every Friday, but I thought why not, I like him, and occasionally some City Council news does pop up on his Facebook page that is semi-interesting.

So what if all of a sudden I were to get a private message from this alderman--one that is suggestive in nature? (I doubt it, because he, like AW, is a newlywed and I'm about 25 years older than he is, but let's just say I were younger and he didn't take his marriage vows very seriously). I would be shocked, offended, and put in a terrible position, because this is a powerful person on whose help I might depend to resolve a neighborhood issue. It's would be wrong. It would not be funny.

Am I getting through at all?

8.  I didn't want clinton to resign.
Maybe I was wrong. Maybe if he had, Gore would have been appointed president. Perhaps spared us the Bush years altogether.

I argued that his sexcapades really were none of my beeswax.

I figure that if you would not openly bring the subject up with the person in a private conversation, it is off-limits for discussion in public.

Laughing and snickering is however perfectly acceptable.

I think this is kinda generational too, no one under 30 even cares about this except to laugh at it like you said. When he is speaking truth to power thats all that matters.

24. Makes you wonder why the media kept its collective mouth shut
back when Arnie was running for Governator ... and, with the "investigation" of Edwards and any monies which might have been used to hush people up, I wonder how much $$$ was given to those who knew Arnie was dipping his dic* in the wrong place ...

25. I think I might even feel a bit sorry for him, which I confess, I did
when the family values guys were caught with their pants down. Imagine being so hung up over sex that you actually think it's a sin?

And why are WE acting like it's a sin, can someone explain to me?

But like you, I would not be asking for them to resign unless THEY, hypocrites that they are, demanded that Democrats resign for the same behavior. Actually I think everyone is learning from this. The Repubs have been fairly quiet about this because they can no longer lecture the rest of us as they did during the Clinton debacle. And for that, I thank Larry Flint. He is a great teacher.

26. May I ask a question to those who have actually been following this
which I, admittedly, have not.

Did he send a photo of his actual unclothed cock? The only photo I've seen was a photo of his underwear -- the sort of view one would see at the beach or in the Sears catalog in the old days. Not really shocking, actually.
