State Representative Ryan Fattman (Republican of Sutton, Mass.), responding to Governor Deval Patrick's decision to take Massachusetts out of the federal government's Secure Communities program, blatantly shrugged off any concern about illegal immigrant women who are raped yet do not report such a crime. According to the
Worcester Telegram & Gazette, Rep. Fattman
said: "My thought is that if someone is here illegally, they should be afraid to come forward. If you do it the right way, you don’t have to be concerned about these things." (found via
right wing watch)
Yep, this fool (contrary to his last name, he doesn't look that big-bodied) spilled the beans of the right-wing agenda. Read it again:
"...if someone is here illegally, they should be afraid to come forward."So in Fattman's typical world, a citizen/legal resident who robs or assaults one of those "illegals" can just get away with it...because that's all that those immigrants deserve, nothing but scorn, hatred, intimidation, underclass status, and punishment. The victim, knowing that coming into contact with law enforcement means request for identification and potentially legal action regarding immigration status, and having no or few citizen friends, won't report the crime.
The Worcester newspaper also reported that Fattman "believes all illegal immigrants should be deported, including the children of immigrants who came with their parents to the U.S."
In January 2011, Fattman was among six Republicans who sponsored
HB 2819 in the Massachusetts House that would make it "unlawful for an employer to knowingly falsify employment or citizenship documents of any alien in the commonwealth." He also co-sponsored
.
He also graduated from high school in 2003, making him about 26 years old this year, and is studying for a master's in public policy at Tufts University.
