Obama Seeks to Win Back Wall St. Cash
by Nicholas Confessore
June 13, 2011

WASHINGTON — A few weeks before announcing his re-election campaign, President Obama convened two dozen Wall Street executives, many of them longtime donors, in the White House’s Blue Room. The guests were asked for their thoughts on how to speed the economic recovery, then the president opened the floor for over an hour on hot issues like hedge fund regulation and the deficit.

Last month, Mr. Obama’s campaign manager, Jim Messina, traveled to New York for back-to-back meetings with Wall Street donors, ending at the home of Marc Lasry, a prominent hedge fund manager, to court donors close to Mr. Obama’s onetime rival, Hillary Rodham Clinton. And Mr. Obama will return to New York this month to dine with bankers, hedge fund executives and private equity investors at the Upper East Side restaurant Daniel.

Mr. Obama’s campaign has deployed a corps of loyal Wall Street supporters who have fanned out to defend the president’s record and stoke fatigued donors. They include Robert Wolf, the chief executive of UBS Group Americas; the hedge fund managers Orin S. Kramer and Eric Mindich; and Mark T. Gallogly, a co-founder of Centerbridge Partners.

Mr. Mindich and Mr. Wolf were among those at the White House meeting, along with some prominent names from the hedge fund world: James G. Dinan of York Capital Management, Glenn Dubin of Highbridge Capital Management and Paul Tudor Jones.

US President Barack Obama has returned to where the money is as the US heads for campaign season. The question is not how much he may or may not raise from Wall Street 'fat cats'. The question is, what do they get in return?

Daniels is a very nice restaurant. A six-course tasting menu costs $195 a person. A "cheap" glass of wine can easily being that up to $300 plus bucks.

Check out their menu and website at:

You must dress properly to gain admittance.

Here's what two reviewers wrote on that subject:

My husband and I are headed to the city to celebrate my whopping 35th b-day (ugh!) and he made reservations at Daniel for us. I'm wearing a swank red Karen Millen dress and these killer leopard print Karen Millen shoes with a cute matching purse. I think I'm all set (I hope) but my husband is trying to figure out what to wear. He's thinking jeans (since they are fashionably dressy now) paired with a nice hip blazer and a Bogosse dress shirt and styish dress shoes... would that ensemble look okay for Daniel or is a suit & tie kinda place? Thanks for the help. It's nice to have a place to ask the locals.

~Susan~

norm "brave" g. says:

I've been to Daniel. Daniel is a classic dignified top dollar New York place. It's jacket and tie for men. It's not about being stylish. Jeans are not in the vocabulary. Wear your most expensive stuff, shoes, bag, watch, earrings, rings, etc. They may not enforce the tie, but you'll feel better if you wear one. When you walk in the door you are in another world. It breathes upper class money. Complete suit is not necessary. Shine your shoes and have a blast. Daniel is the best.

I believe shirt and shoes are also required! :) BBI

4. Of course it is...that's where the link goes.
Am I missing something? It was on the Discussion page just a short while ago, and here it is again. How is that "not a dupe?"

9. Your "dupe" link doesn't connect to this discussion board.

It's not a dupe on this General Discussion Board. It was posted on a different discussion board

I didn't see it on that board.

10. FYI - DU is the "discussion board." GD and LBN are "forums."

Putting it in two different forums is called "cross posting." Maybe if you'd use the correct terminology people wouldn't jump all over your shit.

15. BWHAHAHAHA! "Personal attack?" That's rich!
I don't give a damn if you put me on ignore. If you're so freakin' thin-skinned that you think pointing out the reason why at least three people on this thread pointed out exactly the same thing I did, then I'm happy you put me on ignore. You're not worthy of my brilliance.

Good grief. There's one in every thread.

Not everybody peruses every forum. And is this dupe really the issue here?

21. My reply pointed out the difference between a "message board" and a "forum."
And surely some on DU were also informed by it. But I was "ignored" because someone thought I was attacking them. Yeah, I was attacking the poster.

24. I think you have identified the problem some people have with this post.
They would rather this story not be brought to more people's attention.

Can't we just talk about Weiner's Wiener for another week?

18. Because only a personal attack on the Infallible President could motivate such perfidious discussion
of a true story that happens to be in the news today.

I mean, it's not like it SAYS anything, right?

He's just meeting some bankers.

It's normal. Very normal!
