unless that was not a play on "Goodbye, Columbus".

I loved the Columbo series. In the same way that Peter Sellers defined Inspector Clouseau, Peter Falk defined Lt. Columbo.

19. What were everyone's favorite "Columbo" episodes?
I seem to recall one in which his investigation led him to a Goodwill-type organization.

He wanted them to safekeep that rumpled raincoat he always wore until he was ready to leave; they thought he was donating it.

24. Another favorite was the episode where...
he handed his lunch check in a snooty restaurant to his server saying, "this can't be right...all I had was a bowl of chili and an ice tea!".

The server imperiously scanned the check and replied, "You're right. I forgot to charge you for the ice tea".

25. Ahh, so long ago and far away....
and so many episodes, but the one that stands out in my mind is the one where the wife of a rich (of course weren't they all, for some reason  ) man "exercises" him to death. I think that Colombo figured it out by watching her surveillance tapes.

Anyhow, nice topic, SDuderstadt, and RIP Peter Falk; you provided me with some great Sunday nights as a kid!

He went in to interview a homeless witness, and the nun serving meals to the poor (Joyce Van Patten) thought he was homeless and tried to take away his tattered coat and give him a nicer one.

44. I have a few, but I think the episode was called "Rosebud"
In that episode, a man is killed by his two dogs, dobermans, I think.

Right before the dogs kill the man, he received a phone call from a good friend (the murderer).

The killer hears the dogs attack, hangs up, and calls the police in an effort to "save" his friend.

Columbo figures out that the murder has secretly trained the dogs to respond to a "kill word" ... if they hear it, they will attack anyone who is there.

The word he taught them ... is from the killer's favorite movie ... Citizen Kane. The word is "Rosebud".

So the killer called, and said "Rosebud" ... the victim repeats the word out loud ... "Rosebud".

And the Dogs kill him.

Colombo figures out the word. And then secretly has the Dogs retrained so that instead of killing when they hear that word, they LICK you.

Colombo confronts the killer alone (as usual) ... with the dogs present. Colombo says the word. And the killer freaks out knowing that the dogs will now kill them both, thus confessing. But the dogs just start licking Colombo.

49. Oh so many great moments
In the new Columbos the one with the well connected lawyer who murders the mobster. In the originals, the one with the robot, the one at the military academy, the one with the lady who inherits a company, and the one with the chefs. Loved that show.

52. The one with Johnny Cash is the more memorable one for me.
I was just perusing Netflix instant a couple weeks ago. The whole series is on instant

I was laughing at the recurrent "guest stars". I think Robert Culp killed more people than Jack The Ripper.

How 'bout the one with Leonard Nimoy. A Stitch In Crime

I loved the format of seeing the crime and trying to figure out the mistakes & clues that Columbo would have to find.

Much better than the "who-done-it" format.

They didn't rely on shock value. It was all the cat and mouse between Columbo and the suspect.
