The sacred cows are up for sacrifice

In ages past, the principle of sacrifice was often used in a strange perverted sort of way to engineer appeasement of the Gods, or of the single God.

Priests would sacrifice animals as a way to atone for the sins of people - to appease God. They would say that the animal, or virgin, or child, or enemy represented sins of a society and willingly kill it as a way to get rid of the sin and as a way to win approval with an imaginary man made angry God.

It was stupid then. It is stupid now. Killing that cow in hopes or rain. That is how disconnected the priests were of reality.

In a nutshell, President Obama is willing to cut off one hoof of our sacred social security cow because business cannot see ANY green shoots on their own field. And this is magically supposed to help them feel better about their situation....better enough to get out there and invest in making their own field green again.

Never mind that our sacred cow grazes on a field that was set aside, just for her. Never mind that our sacred cow had absolutely nothing to do with their own scorched and overgrazed fields.



I read the transcript. It is a sad story. The Congress knows that it cannot and should not default on the faith and good credit of the United States. That is not the issue.....and yet that is the threat? Social security is not the problem.....and yet that is the fix? And President Obama is a democratic president.....and yet he spends more political collateral on republican ideology than his own.....

I cannot help but wonder. If the president was George W. Bush right this instant.....would there be anyone cheering on his compromise - even if that compromise was exactly the same as the current president? I didn't think so either.

1. There is only speculation on what people "think" is going to happen.

3. The very first specific cuts Obama mentioned yesterday were

Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid.

Incredible.

4. He has signalled repeatedly that he is willing to do it

Willing to do pretty much whatever the republican priests tell him would appease the business gods so that jobs would miraculously appear.

2. There is Zero reason to cut, er, "strengthen" Social Security.

It's in perfect fiscal health for as far as the eye can see, unless Obama believes that the US economy is about to get even worse and stay that way:

This is purely to do with stealing the $2.6 trillion (and growing) cash in the Social Security Trust Fund for Pete Peterson, the Koch Brothers, and similar folks.
