FRONT LINE NEAR BIR GHANAM (Libya): Ten Libyan rebels were reported killed and 172 wounded in an attack on the eastern oil port of Brega on Saturday, while insurgents drove back forces loyal to Muammar Gaddafi in the west.

In the latest of a series of speeches apparently designed to show he enjoys support in the areas he controls, Gaddafi described the rebels as worthless traitors and rejected suggestions that he was about to leave the country.

"They said Gaddafi will go to Honolulu," he said in a televised speech. "This is funny: To leave the graves of my forefathers and my people? Are you serious?"

His defiance came a day after Western and Arab powers, led by the United States, said the rebel leadership was the legitimate government of Libya. Reports have circulated that Gaddafi is seeking a negotiated way out of the crisis.

noted last week that CJ Chivers at the NYTs said that the rebels' abuses "pale" next to Gadaffi's -- and then goes on to describe nearly identical abuses by the rebels.

Another NATO cheerleader is Ben Wedeman. I've been following him since he was covering Egypt and he's narrating this conflict almost cheerfully, without a shred of skepticism or pretense of neutrality whatsoever.

3. NATO has become the "Enforcement Arm" of the IMF
Disaster Capitalism at its Most Brutal.
If you don't have a disaster, we can provide one!!!

”Gaddafi is the perfect villain for this Anglo-French-American farce unworthy of French playwright Georges Feydeau. For all his dictatorial megalomania, Gaddafi is a committed pan-African - a fierce defender of African unity. Libya was not in debt to international bankers. It did not borrow cash from the International Monetary Fund for any "structural adjustment". It used oil money for social services - including the Great Man Made River project, and investment/aid to sub-Saharan countries. Its independent central bank was not manipulated by the Western financial system. All in all a very bad example for the developing world.”
