Stewart: Newsweek doesn’t need a photo to make Bachmann look crazy

Comedy Central’s Jon Stewart Tuesday scolded Newsweek for selecting an unflattering photo of Rep. Michele Bachmann for their most recent cover.

Conservatives’ favorite thing to do is complain about the mainstream media, Stewart noted. “And you know the worst part about when the right complains about the mainstream media? When their argument contains a kernel of truth.”

“Case in point, this week’s Newsweek cover which seems to have captured Michele Bachmann at the exact moment she’s sees the Amazing Rebalto turn his hat into a dove.”

“Look, Newsweek, that’s a shitty picture of Michele Bachmann. And, clearly, not an accidentally shitty picture of Michele Bachamann. Cause you can say a lot of things about Michele Bachmann — a lot of things — but here is what you can’t say about Michele Bachmann, that she is not photogenic,” he continued.

“Be honest, Newsweek, you used that photo in a petty attempt to make Michele Bachmann look crazy and that’s what her words are for… You want a photo that makes her seem a little off? Make it out of her words!”

1. Frankly Jon, there is no photo out there of Bachman in which she doesn't look crazy,
Her crazy eyes are alight all the time, and there is no angle, no lighting, no filter, nothing that any photographer can do to minimize the simple, basic fact that she looks batshit crazy at all times.

3. The only reasonably flatter photos of her are mid and long range shots
Any thing close up and you find yourself reaching for the phone, looking to dial the nearest exorcist.

14. Yes, shots when she's not looking at the camera
Once she focuses on the camera, you see the lunacy in those eyes.

I do think, however, that the main objection to the Newsweek cover is the fact that they didn't Photoshop her face into looking young and dewy. The picture makes her look her age.

And crazy, barking at traffic crazy.

4. I'd bet good money that SHE chose the picture.
Although she'll never admit it now.

The cover image is what she sees in the mirror every day.

6. As one woman about another I think Bachmann is very, very pretty.
Photos of her not posed are much better. The photo was unfortunate but I'm thinking she had a say in what would be printed, maybe not. Tina Brown is sticking by it...

7. As much as I'd like to agree, I've never seen a photo or video where she didn't look crazy.
She's got a serious case of the googly eyes going on, and she's definitely very tightly wound.

15. Totally Agree with Jon here
All they have to do is use her words. It was blatant and unnecessary.
