GOP "Super Committee" Picks in....Yeah, They're Bad
As reported to the National Journal...now all we need is Pelosi:

Senate Dems: Patty Murray (Co-chair), John Kerry, Max Baucus

Senate GOP: Pat Toomey, R-Pa., Rob Portman, R-Ohio, Jon Kyl, R-Ariz.,

House Dems:

House GOP:. Jeb Hensarling, Texas, Dave Camp, Mich., and Fred Upton, Mich.

Hensarling will serve as co-chair, along with Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., who was appointed yesterday.

As an aside, Co-Chair Jeb Hensarling said this about the Big 3:

"Let's remember again the main drivers of this national debt are three large entitlement programs, programs that have been of great comfort and assistance to my parents and grandparents but they're morphing into cruel ponzi schemes for my 9-year-old daughter and 7-year-olds. Unfortunately, the President ignores the reality, he doesn't really give the facts to the American people and they will go bankrupt where we will save and secure these programs for future generations." Rep. Jeb Hensarling, (R-TX)

---

Let the bloodbath begin.

1. Pat Toomey has seven months experience in the Senate
He will get chewed up and spit out. Talk about "no clue". He is the epitome of that.

27. That sucks. I just have no idea how any sane person thinks there will be any compromises here.

36. Of course there will be compromises here -- with all concessions made by Dems.
The Republicans will join in opposing any plan that has a net revenue increase or a significant cut in military spending. Then a plan will emerge that consists entirely of brutal cuts in domestic programs (programs the Republicans' corporate paymasters don't like anyway).

Republican obstinacy will mean that no other plan can be approved. Therefore, in the interest of bipartisanship, and reaching across the aisle to work together to get things done for the country, at least one Dem (presumably Baucus) will acquiesce to an essentially Republican plan. This will be hailed as a great compromise from our point of view because it doesn't, for example, abolish Medicare in favor of Ryan's couponcare plan.

Yeah, 'cause it couldn't possibly be the unfunded wars - unlike SS and Medicare and Medicaid which every working person pays into.

Fucking liars.

4. The Senate Dems have already sunk us.
The only adequate response would be to: 1) win the House back in a big way (enough to overcome Blue Dogs); and 2) repeal the law establishing the Super Committee.

10. Fred Upton - holy shit.
Isn't he the guy responsible for Benton Harbor and the 'emergency financial manager' set up by the Koch Governor in MI?

Where they can deem a city in financial crisis - than place there emergency manager who disbands the city council etc? Done in 3 cities so far?

We've got 6 HARDCORE republicans, up against 3 (2) 'moderate' Dems and Nancy Pelosi's picks. 1 progressive caucus, 1 black caucus, 1 blue dog?

At least there's no Cantor.

15. Why does THE PRESIDENT not get his ass out there and SAY
that SS has not added a DIME to our debt, that it IS SOLVENT and PAID FOR until 2037 (or whatever) - UNLIKE bu$hit's wars and his tax cuts for the wealthy, and that disasterous Medicare Part D drug mess?

HE should - with all these damn press conferences and such - by harping on that and he isn't. The only one saying ANYTHING is Sanders. :wtf:

presented when this debt/deficit fiasco began. Instead, SS and Medicare were offered up as sacrificial lambs.

...he sits back, says nothing, and then goes along with whatever Republicans want - and then some more - and then gets on TV and tells us how we must do something different. :wtf:

30. IMO, he is strongest after a 'compromise' is completed and he
tries to make it palatable for us. He will defend the compromise, not the principles that shouldn't have been compromised in the first place. As Biden told us - "Buck up".

32. Yep, that's what he does. Guess he figures it's better than having to
fight for any principles. Which makes sense if he doesn't believe in those principles in the first place. Otherwise, it's sheer laziness. The American People are not a class of kindergarten children. His tactics might work with his kids, so I guess he thinks they apply to everyone else, too.

34. Honestly, I don't think he's lazy or weak. I think he has a different
agenda, one that doesn't involve traditional core Democratic principles. Although he's been very careful to never apply labels to himself, he has surrounded himself with DLC/Third Way people in his cabinet and staff. That wasn't an accident.

31. Never too late for the truth.
If the president won't say it, we need to shout it from the rooftops.

Too bad we don't have as big a megaphone. But we can tell everyone we talk to whenever the debt is mentioned.

what's going to happen. Why would he want to mobilize the populace against something he favors?

35. I have bad feeling
Baucus will go with Republicans and Supercongress puts bill cutting 1 Trillion Dollors solely from Cutting Social Security,Medicare,
and Medicaid with no tax Increases and no cuts from Defense. It will easily pass the House with Blue Dogs voting with Republicans.
In the senate centrist Democrats vote with Republicans.Obama signs It as Bipartisan Compromise(He needs to forget the words Bipartisan and comprosie till after the 2012 election if he wants to win)

Reid may have just handed Republicans Congress In 2013 by selecting barcus. The supercongress could take Medicare away from The
Democrats.Plus Reid may have helped Romney,Perry,or Bachmann against Obama.Republcians can run ads saying it Is Obama who wants to
take away Social Security, and Medicare for Old White People, and Medicaid for poor White People.
