Obama set to go beyond $1.5 trln budget cuts-official
Obama set to go beyond $1.5 trln budget cuts-official

U.S. President Barack Obama is preparing a detailed deficit-cutting plan that goes beyond the $1.5 trillion target a congressional committee is aiming for, White House officials said on Wednesday.

The officials said job creation measures may be part of the final package that comes from that so-called super committee, which was created to identify extra budget savings as part of a deal to raise the debt ceiling.

Obama's deficit-cutting ideas will be included in a major speech on job growth planned for early September. His jobs plan has not been finalized but may include measures including tax cuts, infrastructure investment, help for the long-term unemployed and support for specific sectors of the economy in particular need, the administration officials said. 11. Aren't Tax Cuts a favorite amongst certain members of the political spectrum?
Certain selfish, greedy, country destroying, election stealing, gay hating, warmongering, fetus lovin' hypocritical, flag and cross wavin' fascists?

Yea - I thought so.

Fail. Keep it up and the damn Independents aren't going to want anything to do with your Administration either.

2. Seriously?
He's going to talk about his plans for jobs, and tax cuts by focusing on making the deficit reduction plan even bigger?

Seriously?

4. Early draft of speech: Remember that company that made billions and laid you off last month?
I've decided they need a little more money. So dig deep, send me a few bucks and share the sacrifice of making this a great country.

What's the sound of a few million people doing a face palm?

7. None of this matters. Boehner calls the shots now
Obama may propose al he wants, but the T-pers , Cantor and Boehner are effectively running the country. All Obama is doing is trying to 'outflank' them, just like he tried to do with the debt ceiling talks. And he will end up being as effective. Remember the '4 trillion in debt reduction' that he was shooting for?

8. He can't get a real jobs bill through Congress.
He didn't push for filibuster reform so the Senate is still gridlocked. And of course he wont stand up to the teabaggers in the House. So, he can only do RepubliCON things.

Therefore he is going to pretend along with the RepubliCONS that entitlement cuts, retirement pay cuts to the military, NAFTA-style free trade agreements and reducing the budget deficit will magically, mysteriously, out of thin air and lies, create jobs. Da-da, the new Democratic plan to go along with the RepubliCON plan.

9. He is clearly wooing conservative voters
and, by the same token, has decided that he doesn't really want to appeal to progressives. He's doing everything he can to give right wingers a reason to vote for him, perhaps having come to the conclusion that most Americans are conservative in some way or another -- or, conversely, having decided that he's alienated so many progressives that he can't count on the majority of them to vote for him. Or both.

13. During a drought you water the garden...or abandon it
Lysenko would have argued a third way, that somehow not watering the garden would cause it's plants to become drought resistant. But we all know Lysenkoism ended up making millions go hungry.

14. At this point I don't think what's left of the sane R Party is going to
find any of their Party's choices appealing. So much baggage they bring with them - all of them! Most Americans, except for the RW fringe/Fundie/Teabaggers are really sick of all the RW rhetoric and GOP's lousy candidates. Even the Tea Party is unhappy as their candidates don't really seem to function as designed except in the talking trash department.

If he keeps the Indies happy and can incorporate liberal/moderate (R)'s he may be looking at a decent spread in 2012.

All this tax cut, deficit reduction, spending limit rhetoric is a big turn on for conservatives.

I figure he's confident that the (D) vote is a given. Just thinking outloud of course.

15. As the lessons of Alan Grayson and Russ Feingold should teach
you really cannot do the Rahm Emmanuel thing and take for granted your base, because when your base is disillusioned it won't GOTV.

21. Russ and Alan took their base for granted? Really?
How so? Please do elaborate because I have no recollection of anything even approaching that.

They were both targeted by those with money to burn on defeating outspoken congressmen.

23. For both of these guys disillusioned dem voters stayed home
The disillusionment was general, owing to overall disappointing performance of the elected Dems in DC when they had the trifecta. Consequently, the democratic turnout for both of these elections was low and it cost these two guys their seats.

Both Feingold and Grayson have expressed their beliefs that it was low turnout and disappointment/disillusionment that cost them their elections.

24. A general disillusionment is quite different from taking your base for granted.
At least in Alan Grayson's case I don't recall him saying that, I seem to recall him talking about being outspent 4 or 5 to 1 by corporate money.

If you have a link to interviews that support your recollection, I'd love to refresh mine.

25. I'd say Obama and the DCdems in moving to the right
and in choosing supply-side remedies did take the base for granted. The base was screaming for jobs and instead the financial institutions got relief.

And in doing so, while holding the trifecta, the let all the air out of that hope thing. The result was disillusionment and low 2010 turnout.
