. . ., that might be worth something.

32. Not to mention, not everyone who speaks English is good about counting their items.
You could just as easily see this as a poke at the people who show up in a 15 item lane with 20 things.

36. What? I gotta shop AND count stuff now?
Edited on Wed Aug-17-11 04:30 PM by jberryhill
Okay smarty pants....

Is a six pack of soda one item or six items?

If soup is three cans for three dollars, is that one item or three items?

Tomatoes are five for two dollars. I have one plastic bag with five tomatoes in it. How many items?

Here's the deal - if it fits in one of the plastic baskets, I'm going to the express lane.

I buy stuff. I don't count it. And, god damn it, I'm checking out! I'm not solving mathematical puzzles here!

Besides, last week I checked out with ten items, so the store owes me five.

40. It's interesting you mention that
McD's was my very first job, and it was stressed to me at the time that we did in fact have a picture menu available, and it was made clear that it was primarily for the illiterate or mute.

I never had anyone ask me for one, but the idea has in fact been around for quite a long time now.

8. Signage in the US generally sucks ass

I do a lot of international travel, and one of the things that strikes me is that signage in a lot of countries, and not just in tourist areas, seems geared toward the idea that not everyone speaks one language.

What's really amazing is that even in airports in the US, the English itself can be awful, confusing and ambiguous.

I feel sorry for international travelers arriving at the Philadelphia "International" Airport, although the guys who manage the customs and immigration line at O'Hare deserve an award in the "Shout English Louder And Slower" department of cross-cultural communications.

At a grocery store in Cambridge, with a 12-items-limit lane, a student-age guy wheels up with a full cart containing scores of items. The cashier looks it over and says to him, "Either you're from MIT and you can't read, or you're from Harvard and you can't count."
