California Rep. calls on black community to pressure Obama
Source: RawReplay
By Andrew Jones

With a 90% approval rating from African-Americans, President Obama may not have to worry about losing that base in the next election. But there is some heat coming from congressional black figures.

On a jobs tour in Detroit Monday evening, Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) and the CBC addressed a passionate audience in dealing with a very tricky situation for her colleagues.

“We don’t put pressure on the President because y’all love the President,” Waters said. “When you let us know it’s time to let go, we’ll let go.”

“We’re supportive of the President, but we’re getting tired y’all. We want to give the President every opportunity to show what he can do and show what he is prepared to lead on. But our people are hurting. The unemployment is unconscionable. We don’t know what the strategy is. We don’t know why — on this trip he’s on now — he’s not in any black communities. We don’t know that.”

1. I will say it again...
MS. Waters as a rep has alot of power and can write legislation...WHERE IS HER JOBS PLAN THAT CAN PASS THE TEA PARTY HOUSE AND OVERCOME A FOR SURE REPUB FILLUBUSTER IN THE SENATE? Easy to be a flame thrower, another story doing actual policy and dealing with the repub obstructionist party. Does she want Obama to make laws himself without congress? Nothing will happen until we take back the house and get a fillubuster proof senate because REPUBLICANS WILL NEVER ALLOW PROGRESS UNDER A DEMOCRAT PRESIDENT WHETHER MAXINE KNOWS IT OR NOT.

3. I totally agree with you.
However it seems that way to many people can't seem to understand what you said. Republicans are the problem, and no matter what the president wants, says or does, without the votes in congress he just can't get anything done! Yes, he can use the bully pulpit to speak out, but that is about it. To many people stayed home last year instead of getting out to vote, and we can all see the results of that in the house as well as in many states that are now run by republicans.

The goal of every one on the left should be to make sure we get the voters out to vote, and take back the house, increase our numbers in the senate, and keep president Obama in the WH!

4. As Kevin Drum of Mother Jones said:
"Honest to God, Republicans must all be sitting in their back rooms and just cackling like hell right now. Think about it. They developed a strategy to hamstring the president completely — a strategy that’s bulletproof thanks to our country’s Constitution — knowing that it would rally their base but also hoping that it would cause moderates and lefties alike to become disgusted with Obama’s weakness even though we all know who’s really responsible for what’s going on. And it worked! In fact, it’s worked better than they could possibly have imagined. They can probably barely keep from spitting up their beers right now."

6. Amen! That was my first thought, too.
Congress needs to quit pointing the finger and get busy. Both sides.
