Poll question: Should progressives go along with Republican Policy
because nothing else can pass the House of Representatives.

9. The problem is even when they try this
Republicans then run away from their own positions. They don't want to be seen as having any overlap in interest. Thus they have become the party of extreme goofiness. Only in new Republican land is killing terrorists and trying to lower the threat of nuclear attack part of the extreme liberal agenda.

Eisenhower, anyone? And although I never thought I'd EVER say this at the time, I'd support a bunch of Nixon's positions on issues that are important to me. He at least CREATED and empowered the EPA, an agency that his successors in BOTH parties have worked to hamstring ever since.

2. The progressives have to stake out their positions
and stand by them so people can tell that there is a difference.

It's like ol' Give 'em Hell Harry said: Given the choice between a real Republican and a fake reRepublican, the voters will pick the real Republican every time.

4. Other: They should band together with other Democrats to
take Congress back so we can have a Congress that will pass decent legislation in the first place. That is the only answer that will work. There is no alternative.

5. No other alternative eh? Not so sure that I believe that, and I'm sure as hell sure
it doesn't mean we should go along with Republican Policy.

6. I'm a liberal, and in my opinion progressives should not go along with
Republican Policy. We liberals don't.

But I can not speak for them and do not know what defines the modern progressive movement.

7. For me, Bob LaFollette defines the Progressive movement.

8. I really appreciate your answer.
I knew a little about Bob LaFollette, but now know more, and I agree with his platform, with some updating for modern conditions. I willhave to read more on this man.

About Robert "Fighting Bob" La Follette
His Progressive Party platform called for government takeover of the railroads, elimination of private utilities, easier credit for farmers, the outlawing of child labor, the right of workers to organize unions, increased protection of civil liberties, an end to U.S. imperialism in Latin America, and a plebiscite before any President could again lead the nation into war.

10. I know that many of your posts have educated me as well.
Incidentally, check out http://www.fightingbobfest.org/ to see what progressive cheeseheads have been up to for the last 10 years or so.
