THANK YOU!!! joshcryer, pinboy3niner, Iterate, tabatha, al bupp, Turborama (LBN),
and Catherina who covered the protests in the early days.

My apologies for those who regularly posted but whom I may not have seen in my drive-by lurking and drive-by posting. Add their names if you have them, please.

:yourock:

You've done a wonderful job of doing the "grunt work" of keep us updated; whether we agreed or not.

Libya as well as Egypt and Tunisia, have miles to go before they can rest; but they have made the beginnings of freed peoples.

You have provided an invaluable source of history in the making. The "Arab Spring (cleaning)"

I thank you from the bottom of my curmudgeonly heart.

42. Thanks, Cerridwen. I appreciate it very much.
You have always been supportive, and that really helped.

Even when we had no positive comments and no recs, we could see from the views that we had followers, and at times, even if that was all we had, it was enough.

But it meant so much more, and had so much more impact, when even one member took the time to pop in and let us know that that they found the updates useful and valuable. Obviously we were already committed, but a single comment like that could get us FIRED UP.

Thanks again for all your support.

Love & Peace,
pinboy3niner

And no, I don't take credit except very early days when I did the this is your ME and NA geography and context.

6. Twitter is awash in which dictators are next. Yes, Syria is the next.
Then...

It would appear the entire Middle East, North Africa, and perhaps, the entirety of Africa is "next".

12. Where once we were "leaders" we are now followers.
I do not expect we in the US will rise up.

My years in politics and organizing advises me that we, in the US, cannot be bothered to defend and/or advocate for ourselves much less for those who are not "us." US tribalism is much more ingrained than even in "those countries" we are told are "barbarian."

I will not see a US uprising in my lifetime; I'm 53; will be 54 in October. I have gone through the stages of grief and I have arrived at acceptance. So it is.

16. I so hope you are correct.
We will need gatherings in states' capitals and in other locations and we will need media and/or twitter and/or youtube coverage for the world to know.

I also was thinking, American (US) Autumn. <-----I hate to claim "America" for just the US.

14. I will guess.
I think she became very disgusted/disturbed by the apparent "war lust" of those who would support NATO intervention in the Libyan uprising. Reconciling ones ideals with ones real-world experiences is painful; saddening; soul-sucking, when first you have to face it.

I miss her. We became friends during some Haiti events.

I hope she is well.

I do not speak for her; this is just my guess and opinion.

18. I think you're right.
Catherina made some comments to that effect before she left. When NATO became involved she seemed to think the revolution had been hijacked; that it was turning into one more exercise in Western imperialism. A lot of people on DU seemed to share that opinion.

19. It may be true that
there is much "Western Imperialism" involved in why western powers became involved. I can only hope (and pray?) that the Arab peoples will protect themselves as best they can from empire building.

I miss Catherina. I hope she returns. She had some great music links. :)

I miss her.

29. I miss her too. Maybe she'll be back
if her worst fears fail to materialize and the NATO forces withdraw after doing their part. I would hate to see anything resembling an occupation or semi-permanent foreign military presence in Libya. Can't see any valid reason for it at this point.

26. I believed that there was hypocrisy in that point of view
But I think Cerridwen might be right. It might be a clash of idealism and reality. Of course it was good to cheer on enemies of Gaddafi, but getting rid of him was going to be costly.

31. The rebels asked for help.
Also, practically all of the tweets were from foreigners, since Gaddafi cut the internet in Libya, so she felt "played" by Libyan expats who supposedly had something to gain.

I've noticed that as soon as anyone asks for help, if the helpers are the west, then supposed leftists go turncoat very quickly. Very quickly.

Thanks to the DU Libyan Revolution reporting team! You all kept at it even in the face of criticism from the naysayers who did/do not believe in the freedom fighters motives.

Here's to you and to the Libyan 'rebels' and hopes that they can really make the country they dream of happen. :toast:

et al.

Sometimes when news stories about what's going on sink like a heavy stone it's hard to know if anyone's taking any notice so acknowledgement like this is gratefully appreciated and makes it all worthwhile.

We can't forget, as you mentioned above, that the Syrians still have a long way to go to achieve the freedoms they crave and are being massacred and tortured in their attempts to get them.

:hi: :yourock: too! :headbang:

PS I'd like to give a big thank you to joshcryer, pinboy3niner, Iterate, tabatha and al bupp for all the hard graft they've been consistently putting into their excellent and really up to date threads in GD over the past several months. Even though I haven't had any spare time to get involved in GD for a while, the huge amount of work they have been putting in to keep everyone up to date has been very much appreciated.

Sorry, an opportunity to resurrect Emily Litella is just too good to resist. :)

I appreciate the thanks from Cerridwen, and that it is directed, appropriately, at all who contributed. They say it takes a village, and in our case I believe it truly did. And beyond those of us who were named, there were unnamed others who contributed when they were able.

It's been a great team effort, and it's not over yet--so get the #%&* back to work! :)

Love & Peace,

38. I understand it perfectly well.
For one, it originates from a likely TS'd individual (they know who they are), and secondly, I have a lot of experience with authoritarian leftists (ANSWER and the like), and lemme tell you, they are not representative of leftists that believe in justice and equality.

The whole reason I started the Libya Revolution threads was a response to an intrinsically evil view of the world, where anyone who supports people rising up that get help from the west are supposedly bad people with "deep moral failings" as someone recently alluded to here.
