Maddow's political forecast
CUMMINGTON -- For progressive Democrats, the 2012 election outlook is bleak, though not hopeless.

That’s the view conveyed by Rachel Maddow, the popular MSNBC host, at a community event in this picturesque, close-knit Pioneer Valley community on the eastern slopes of the Berkshires.

Dubbed "Rachel Maddow: Unplugged," the discussion drew a capacity crowd of about 250 to the Village Congregational Church Saturday afternoon as a benefit for the Old Creamery Cooperative.

The non-profit group is raising funds toward a $1.2 million project to purchase and renovate the town’s general store, cafe and gathering place. Close to $450,000 has been raised so far.

1. Rachel is wonderful, but her predictions are often not correct.

she is a brilliant person and I love how she brings out the hypocracy on the right but she is not so good at predictions.

2. Gotta love her! I like hearing about her endeavors off air....she's obviously
true to her position on MSNBC. I love the way she kills em' with facts when explaining current affairs on her program. I wish more people would listen to her.

3. Sounds like a smart bet to me.
Obama got into the White House riding on a groundswell of enthusiasm from young people and the left in general. With that enthusiasm now quenched by the reality of how Obama governs, he is going to have a hard time beating any candidate, because the frank fact of the matter is that a lot of the people he got to come out and vote for him in '08 are going to be staying home in disgust next year.

4. Wrong. A lot of the people who came out and voted for him in '08 will vote for him again...
...but the lack of enthusiasm means they won't be volunteering to get the swing voters out to vote for him this time around.

6. People need to remember that even Rachel says she tends to be very negative in her outlook.
A glass half-empty and assume the worst will happen POV.

She has admitted on her show that that is her general outlook.

So, even though some people eat it up, there is no need to accept her negative prognostications. She didn't think DADT would get repealed. She was extremely happy to be wrong but she was wrong. I think she also thought Hillary was going to challenge President Obama at the DNC Convention in 2008.

So take all predictions with a grain of salt.

It reminds me of Lawrence saying over and over again that HCR would never pass. Guess what? They are frequently extremely wrong.

Pundits don't get fired for being spectacularly wrong. That is why we still have all these ridiculous RW Neo-con commentators brought on TV or in newspapers to yap about foreign policy.
