Yours is a typical straw man argument, meant to deflect attention from the statement that is actually being made. One might even say you're getting lazy, considering the frequency with which you employ the method.

Criticizing Democrats RIGHTFULLY for selling out party values AUTOMATICALLY means you are giving the GOP a free pass.

Especially when we all know they sold out their party decades ago. Okay.

To tell you the truth, I'd vote for Eisenhower in a heartbeat, especially since at this point in our history, he'd be considered a far leftist Democrat.

The Democratic party is not.

The toon makes no sense in context of the actual corporate owned party. Mr. Fish knows that, but he chose to be lazy and drew a toon demonstrating that laziness.

50. And you cannot see how the Third way has taken over
and given way to the ideals of a different party. Parties change... the Democratic party has changed... why I am now an Independent... I am betting though I am quite to the "left" of you though... and yes I would vote for IKE these days if he were on the ballot... sadly he is closer to what I think should be a national vision than the current crop at the DNC. THen again Reagan would not make it in the modern day REPUBLICAN party, but that is why, and I keep telling you this and you have a heck of a time grasping this... the political establishment has moved that far to the RIGHT.

THe DNC is a modern day center right party and the RNC is so far right they are falling off the table.

Toon is on point.

You've stated the Republicans are COMPLETELY owned -- I would only quibble with that in saying them are also owned by religious fanactics.

But do you think Democrats are not at all owned by Corporations? Or a little bit owned? Or mostly owned but not COMPLETELY?

I can't say why the cartoonist chose CNN (or any other particular company specifically), but I agree with the premise that our party has become more and more beholden to Corporations and it is killing us.

But the donations are nowhere near equal. The Republicans do their bidding without question. The Democrats do things like push for an end to corporate tax loopholes for oil companies, while the Republicans block it. See that Exxon patch on the Mr. Fish's donkey? Why is it there? It's lazy bullshit.

60. Both parties are completely owned by corporations
But it would be beating a dead horse to show a picture of an elephant with a bunch of logos on it; because that much is the obvious truth and has been for the past few decades.

That comic was made for people like you, so you could see the light and help tear some logos off the party. But yes, the corporate selling out is different with the parties. With repugs its blatant and obvious; any literate person can see that. Our selling out is different, and in my opinion, a helluva lot worse. Because its deceptive, its not obvious at first, and it can fool people. You have been fooled like many others, into the sense our party is perfect. Its far from. Work with us to fix it, rather than pretending.

14. it isn't even the corporations though
it's also the upper middle class working people. The payroll tax cut, for example, shakes out like this

top 10% - 26.7%
next 10% - 19.7%
next 20% - 26.3%
next 20% - 15%
next 20% - 8.3%
next 20% - 3.8%

The Obama "jobs" proposal does more for the top 10% than it does for the bottom 40%. Those in the top 20% get almost twice as much as the bottom 60%.

It's the bottom 60% that the Democratic party is supposed to be fighting for, but they've apparently sold out to the top 20% (where more of the donors live).

41. I'm not sure why we like this, if true.
Take Citizens United--this raised the price of elections by dumping unlimited corporate and foreign money into our elections. Now most money will come from outside districts thanks to Dubya's "Elite-o" and "Peppermint Patty" Roberts, Scalia and Thomas. All Republican appointments. That's called "judicial review.

When the price of elections is raised, Democrats have to follow or they will not exist any more. So why the dead donkey?

62. Bubba was the only 3rd way President the Democrats ever got elected.
That's why Bubba didn't like Carter, he didn't even invite him to the DNC in 1992.

Mr Fish's humor is around the 8th grade level. I have no idea why Harper's allows him in their pages.

for brutal honesty..

When you can count on two hands the Dems( and Indy) that openly, loudly and unapologetically advocate for traditional Democratic principles... you've got a serious problem... or should I have said one hand??

100. This toon is on target
The only thing that would make it more accurate would be to include an elephant with the same logo's and the supreme court with the same logos.

But it does illustrate exactly what is wrong with our country.
