I don't think this is gonna fly. WJR-AM 760 has a 50,000W blowtorch and dominates the market for this kinda shit in Detroit.

WXYT-AM (1270) is launching a revamped news-talk format on Sept. 12, representatives announced today.

The lineup will include Charlie Langton, the colorful lawyer-commentator who’s become a fixture on shows like “The Edge” on WJBK-TV (Fox 2) as morning host, followed by a string of syndicated commentators, including well-known conservative voices Glenn Beck and Laura Ingraham.

Metro Detroiters accustomed to having their sports talk and game play-by-play simulcast on both WXYT-FM (97.1, the Ticket) and WXYT-AM (1270) will hear the sports content and games broadcast exclusively on the FM dial after the format change is complete.

The new Talk Radio 1270 WXYT’s weekday lineup will include: Langton’s new radio show (6-9 a.m.), Beck (9 a.m.-noon), Ingraham (noon-3 p.m.), Todd Schnitt (3-6 p.m.), Jason Lewis (6-9 p.m.), and Rusty Humphries (9 p.m.-12 a.m.). Schnitt, Lewis and Humphries are all conservative-leaning syndicated talkers.

1. This is heartbreaking

I used to listen to this station when I was in Detroit. Why do these companies think this is a great selling point for the radio stations?? There are already way too many Right-Wing rag radio stations now. It's incredible the stupidity of these stations. And it's also a loss for the station. They no longer have local hosts on the air - which in turn means those people have now lost their jobs. Thanks a lot for creating jobs again Repukes . . .

2. This has been in the making.

The old WXYT sports format moved to FM, and the AM was just simulcasting the FM. So at least Detroit isn't losing the sports format to loontalk.

You are right...CBS is breaking apart this simulcast and hopes to pick up some ratings scraps. It's sure to be low budget with no promotion and I'll bet they'll be mostly infomercials in the near future. WJR has nothing to fear.

There is an easy way to fix this "effed-up" AM radio crap that has infested America. Don't waste your time with the corporations and monopolies like Clear Channel....MAKE LIFE MISERABLE FOR THE LOCAL STATIONS THAT CARRY THIS SHITE

It's based in Dearborn and its range does not cover the whole metro area.

15. What we're up against:

1,000 uncontested RW Hate Radio stations, from sea to shining sea. And the Fairness Doctrine was just torpedo'ed (I guess "fairness" just isn't "bi-partisan" enough. It might accidentally let a Progressive/Lib DEM voice through the RW static.)
