A brief moment to say- I am so proud of my partner- a Teacher.
I talked to him about his first day of school.
They have him teaching math, social studies, and english to 5th grade "at risk" students.
He loves his current classes-already knows their names.
he acts like he just opened the present he's been waiting for.
I guess he has- he opened his classroom to these kids in South Dallas.

Here's to the teachers.

2. Teachers are my heroes
I say that quite seriously. They are remarkable people. In any just society, they would be paid at the level we now pay derivative traders. Why? Because they are far more important than derivative traders.

Kudos to your partner!

5. I agree- especially since DISD teachers are seeing pay and staffing cuts like you wouldn't believe
It's inhumane...but these teachers stay focused... and dedicated.

6. Imagine this

Imagine if the iconic symbol of America wasn't the silhouette of a heavily-armed cyborg soldier, but something that depicted, say, teaching and learning?

What a country that would be.

Sigh.

7. Yea! for teachers
I have a young friend who just graduated from Sam Houston in Huntsville and certified as a teacher. She is 21 and looks all of 16. She got a job teaching in the East Texas piney woods high school junior English. This is in an extremely impoverished area with 80+% of the students on free lunch.

I am so happy for her and at the same time a bit apprehensive.

10. Pass a thank you to your partner
5th grade is a huge turning point in the education of a child.
