5. I've heard that there aren't really "foreshocks", although
I don't know how they determine which is THE one, and which aren't. If an "aftershock" is larger, does that make the first one a "foreshock"? Whatever, it's scary for the people going through it, and I know the first one I was in at 12 years old, we were on edge for days waiting for more, which thankfully never came.

2. They always say that in Seattle, but we've never had extensive
ones and I've been through about a dozen. My brother lived in Whittier, CA when the aftershocks came a few days later with the intensity of the initial quake, so they ARE a possibility.

3. there will certainly be quite a few aftershocks
after a 5.9

only a very small chance of a larger quake

7. But they may be so minor they may not even be felt outside
of the immediate area. I just posted in Seattle that they always warn of them, but we've never experienced anything like other places I've heard of. Usually they'll report it and show where it was located, but that's about it, otherwise we wouldn't have even known.

I also posted that the first time I was in one I was 12, it was a 5.9 I think, we spent the day practicing diving under our desks, and spent several days on edge so afraid of the aftershocks which thankfully never came. I really feel for those experiencing this for the first time, it's so scary and unsettling. :grouphug:
