2. Was the quake caused by the hole where the Fed threw all our money?

5. For the most part, they don't know where faults are
until after earthquakes occur.

There is a major effort out here in CA to create fault maps. They are constantly discovering new faults which they were previously unaware of. I know that I researched faults before I purchased to find a 'safe' area only to have new faults identified within a few miles. best laid plans and so on....

6. The methods and means of rating quake magnitude only goes
back to the mid 1930's. The oral history contains many that seem to be far larger than that. Here is a story about Aug 1884 quake felt up and down the east coast http://www.gendisasters.com/data1/ny/earthquakes/eastcoast-earthquake-aug1884.htm

7. A 3.6 quake was felt?
Rather sensitive types in DC. Are they sure it wasn't a semi rumbling past? ;-)

8. I was wondering this. I have lived here 20 years and I dont remember any quakes at all.
this was a sharp quick jerking quake. Our building was evacuated and closed.
