5. For the most part, they don't know where faults are

until after earthquakes occur.

There is a major effort out here in CA to create fault maps. They are constantly discovering new faults which they were previously unaware of. I know that I researched faults before I purchased to find a 'safe' area only to have new faults identified within a few miles. best laid plans and so on....

8. I was wondering this. I have lived here 20 years and I dont remember any quakes at all.

this was a sharp quick jerking quake. Our building was evacuated and closed.
