Two older people. Though in one of them's case, getting fired several times due to inability to get along with co-workers might be a big factor.

Relatives in southwest Louisiana. Don't know unemp. rate there, but it's probably higher than nat'l average.

6. It depends on how I count

I consider myself unemployed although the desk that resides in a corner of a spare bedroom represents job creation. I use it to generate whatever funds I can but it is far from a living wage.

I know a couple of folks who taught in a technical program for a number of years. They lost their jobs when the program was shut down. One now works a part-time retail job. The other does contract work - and has incurred over $40,000 in medical expenses over the last year (and can reasonably expect that to continue for years into the future).

I know a couple of kids that opted to go to graduate school when the could not find jobs. And I know a couple of recent grads that are looking for jobs.

I know several 50ish adults who are well educated with good work histories that would be happy to find almost any kind of job. There are 2 MBAs, one psych nurse and one medical researcher in that group.

I know two small business owners that have been forced to close their doors - and two more that will likely be forced to join them in the near future.

I know a few realtors that can't tell you the last time they closed a sale.

I know four people that are working the arts and craft circuit becuase they can't find jobs.

I know an unemployed lawyer, another that drives a UPS truck, another that works the cosmetics counter at Dillards, another that does clerical work.

I count 25 - though most of them are trying to do someting to stay busy and bring in some $$$.

11. That's close to my experience. I know a lot of Ph.D.s making $6K a year

teaching one class, unable to find more work. I know two community college teachers with MAs unable to find any work whatsoever. I know a lot of people doing odd jobs for a living. My mother-in-law has been unemployed for the last decade after her business died. Most of the people I know who are employed work food service industry jobs.

My friend who was unemployed for 2 years just found work. Unfortunately the owner (small business/sales) is a coke or meth head who carries a loaded gun and leaves loaded guns all over the business--out on tables, etc. Too poor to quit!

9. Depends on what you mean by that. My partner has two jobs that pay less than $125 combined

A week. That's next to being unemployed. Also, are people who mow lawns from door to door unemployed? Depends on how low you want to go here.

My sister and niece are grossly underemployed, as well.

12. unemployment is bad, no doubt

but the real killer is underemployment. A couple of over 50's in my house, and we have watched our income go from just under 100,000 yearly to about $45,000.

I am beginning to just hate my life. :(
