Pics from OccupyDallas (10/6/11) PIC HEAVY
Edited on Fri Oct-07-11 08:08 PM by rainbow4321
Some reports had the crowd at 500, others say more. Of course, some of the media downsized us to a "couple hundred". One funny moment with the media, RIGHT when they were going to "go live" at 4 pm (guess they were starting the broadcast earlier than their 5 pm slot) it was decided by the huge group that we were going ON THE MOVE from the JFK memorial area to march on the Federal Building. A vote was taken, do we stay and wait for their "live shot" or do we march...we voted to MARCH...fuck the media, they can move and follow us if they want their live shot! Like someone said, we are NOT beholden to the media!

Someone giving a four legged protester a refreshment as we all gathered at a park prior to marching to the Fed Reserve (our first stop in a long day and several stops: Fed Reserve, Chase Building, Federal Building. We regrouped after a lunch break at the JFK memorial and enjoyed happy drivers who were passing us, waving, honking, giving us thumbs up...The Dallas police were awesome all day. They worked with the organizers/the group's committees/protestors (Several time the chant "DPD! DPD!" broke out with all of us facing the police presence and waving/clapping.

Me!! The colorful sign of the blank TV screen says how the Revolution won't be televised BUT it WILL be livestreamed, blogged, tweeted...

Yep...this sign..is A KIDDY POOL. The guy carried it all day!

Crowd arrives at Dallas Fed Reserve Building

These next two are pics of a marcher---leg amputee on crutches--who was walking ahead of me

Moved over to the JFK Memorial

Then onto the Federal Building (houses FBI, other fed offices) in downtown Dallas (police cars surrounded the building and we were told if we crossed the street we'd be arrested for being on federal property)

1. The gentleman with the Bob Marley shirt...
Wasn't he a contestant on American Idol?

3. Awesome job! Great pics!
I have a question. Is there a plan to remain in Pike(?) Park like the protestors in NYC who are camping out in Zuccotti Park?

8. JFK Memorial cube
Is where the camping is happening, from what I understand, but I haven't been able to get down there yet. I had to leave after the march yesterday. Taking my son down tomorrow or maybe Sunday... social studies field trip. :)

11. Think what I read on their website tonight is
that they have relocated to Pioneer Plaza (Park?) by city hall. From their FB info, everyone who camped out at the JFK memorial Thursday night had to take cover/squeeze together in the cube to sleep because the LAWN SPRINKLERS went off and people were getting drenched! I'm guessing the powers that be forgot about the automated sprinklers.

They stayed at the JFK memorial Thursday night because the county gave them a one night waiver to camp out there...I know that at like 5 pm Thursday night the group's committees were working with the city/county on "legal/safe" overnight camps, I guess they all kinda agreed that the overnight waiver would buy everyone some time until a better place was found? They announced about the meeting while we were all protesting at the Fed building.

OccupyDallas.org seems to be updated well with what places they will be marching to during the day, they added, though, that there will be some people staying back at Pioneer Plaza to greet people who show up there to meet up with OccupyDallas. It also has a livestream.

Will be interesting this weekend cuz it is also TX-OU weekend and downtown will also be swarming with the crowd that comes with/during/after the game! Unfortunately I work all weekend so the next time I can go down there is Monday :(

14. ah... sorry
Thanks for the correction. I should have stayed out of it. :) Oh well, no harm done. Pioneer Plaza is a better place anyway, imho.

The TX/OU addition to the mix should definitely be interesting. Ugh, I hate TX/OU weekend. Traffic was terrible this afternoon, and tonight roaming drunks could be problematic for the occupiers. I hope it all goes ok.

15. Ohmygosh..no problem...
I only knew cuz I visited their website when I got off work to get an update. Wish I was not working this weekend...12 hour shifts so it's not like I can even go down there, get back home, and get enough sleep for the next day!

And, yeah..this will NOT be a good weekend in Dallas for travel on the roads at ALL. The TX-OU traffic jams, tomorrow night's Ranger game, the Taylor Swift concert at the SAME time as that Ranger game right across the street at JerryWorld. I believe the Stars start their season this weekend, too!

Oh, and the whole iffy take DART to the game reliability..can they pull this off or will they f it up like 2 years ago?

At least OccupyDallas may have a big audience/passerbys downtown then they would on any other weekend downtown!

Don't envy the Dallas PD this weekend!

18. Yeah, DPD has its hands full this weekend
I didn't even know about the concert or the Stars. I too hope DART can manage, it is ridiculous the issues they have had with big events. Oh well. I am going to stay in as much as I can this weekend. Thankfully I have no need to interact with Arlington at all, and Fair Park shouldn't impact the route I take to City Hall so much.

5. Federal propertyis OUR property!!!!!!
Paid for by OUR tax dollars.

I am so damn fed up with the Feds thinking they exist in a vacuum!
And for the voters who buy that thinking.

7. My thought exactly!
If one is on federal property how can s/he be arrested for being on property for which s/he pays for? I don't understand that at all!

21. Then they announced to us "no masks allowed"
While we were across the street from the building. So everyone who had on V masks had to take them off (they found a solution, they put it on the back of their heads so the masks still showed to everyone) and those who had kerchiefs around their faces had to remove them.

Keep in mind NONE of us were over by the building (cross the street, risk arrest). We were on the other side of the street and the building was encircled by a LOT of officers and their cars. Yet everything over people's faces had to be removed.
