2. 2001 and 2007 - both very slow recoveries under repug policies

When you gut government in the good times, and then block any equitable economic stimulus on ideological grounds, there's good evidence of what you get.

The current jobs bill Obama is trying to get through now has many of the same things in it that the 2009 stimulus started with, but were stripped out by the repugs and blue dogs. Their boneheaded ideas of how to run a government haven't caused any particular reaction at the polls, but their effect on the economy is pretty clear.
