4. None of the above
Given time they are more likely to self-destruct whether through internal conflict, lack of on-going participation or sense of futility.

5. And remember, in discussions such as this, don't give the bad guys any ideas.
Loose lips sink ships, and all.

13. Cantor and Cain, et al are who gives them excuses
by calling peaceful protesters "mobs" who seek to divide Americans against each other and conduct class warfare.

A thread on a political discussion board means less than nothing to them.

11. Weather and lack of majority support
Of course, the weather won't mean much IF they can get that majority support. That support would also turn this into a movement instead of just another protest.

14. the media and their spin
will kill it by making the ignorant millions of the 99% think it's just a bunch of lazy whining socialists. i say this after reading some comments here:
http://www.wral.com/news/national_world/national/story/10239247/

some comments:
I hope obama is happy with putting the rich against the poor. Sort of like Hitler with the german people and the jews. Blame the governments mistakes on a select few and convince the majority it was their fault.

They are the "I want what you have" group. Hope it rains on them!

If you want to protest something protest the 49% of the lazy leaches that don't work that everybody else pays for, get real greenies!

I am not rich and everyone needs to stop being mad at or blaming the rich for being successful!...Look around at your own sorry lives......Look at why you are broke and struggling.....Yes some have you have gotten raw deals......but a great deal of the people out there crying about the poor are too lazy to get off their rears to do anything about it and expect the government to take care of their needs......I work 3 jobs to make $ 45,000.00 a year.....I have never brought a child in this world, because I know I could have not given it everything it needed......I have NEVER asked the government for housing assistance, food stamps, unemployment, anything!......Stop crying about your lives and do something about it!

"Im poor, I dont have a job, so I think i'll make a pretty pink sign and mill around a sidewalk for a week"

Know what these people are? Panhandlers!

there are some good responses, but was i ever dismayed to read these comments. :(

15. My experience has been that most commenters on news sites are ignorant RW'ers
DU can give one the impression that a degree of sentience and decency prevails online, but the swarming idiots who comment at msnbc, yahoo and elsewhere can deflate that impression quickly.

only that they are stupid, they spout absolutely erroneous information together with being crude and rude. And most have little spelling proficiency.

25. no kidding.
so many of them just kind of spurt that ignorant "get a job!" - i mean, really? do they really believe that 95% of the currently unemployed would not be working if they only COULD get a job?

i guess thinking is just too hard for a lot of people. for me since i can remember thinking is what i cannot stop doing. ever it seems. and i'm thinking about how completely screwed this country is so much lately.

the OWS movement gives me hope. i want it to grow and grow and GROW until these cretinous non thinkers are jumping on board because it will just be the thing to do by and by. since apparently they won't get there on the merits.

16. The masses/MSM IMO will become preoccupied with the presidential run and
business as usual will return. And no matter who is elected the same shit will continue. I say the latter just looking at history. Now if, for example, we were to move into a great depression (although I think many already feel that way), things might happen.

The only thing that might make a difference IMO is if, somehow, a really strong third party candidate arose from OWS activities, and OWS had a really large following. I've been waiting decades for America to change, but all I've seen is more and more entrenched money and corresponding power into the political system. Very very bad.

20. much like the pre-iraq war rallies
the media will continue to under report them. They will blow them off as not serious and under report numbers. Meanwhile 2 people show up at a teaparty rally and the media reports that the teaparty is a political voice to be feared.

23. I think there are always a few protesters who want to get into the extreme
The protesters I saw after dark at the park in NYC were all very respectful of the police officers and even of quiet hours. Civil Disobedience means being non-violent. We do not need those who are violent trying to help our cause.

27. This is our generation's "Bonus March" and chicago '68. Its a powder keg and could devolve into

chaos. Lets hope it doesn't and the protesters are successful in meeting their objectives nonviolently.

That being said, Mammon demands blood.

28. Co-option is the biggest danger.........
I saw a Ron Paul sign at the Occupy Nashville site yesterday. Co-option by the bourgeoise, whether Democratic Party, the libertarians, or the capitalists buying them out will kill the movement quicker than anything else.

29. their termination
provocateurs, police sweeps, even total riots will be of only secondary concern if people keep coming back to the streets, keep adding veterans and unions--and, maybe, the very police and Guardsmen themselves
