Rush Limbaugh Hearts Terrorists… As Long As They’re Christians
via Talking Points Memo, we have this latest example from the post-parody world:

We've all heard the saying that "my enemy's enemy is my friend." In Rush Limbaugh's case that's just put him in bed with some rather unsavory characters.

The characters in question are the Lord's Resistance Army - a notorious gang of child abductors, rapists, mutilators, thieves and murderers who have marauded across Africa's "Great Lakes Region" for more than 20 years. President Bush declared them a terrorist organization in 2001, and the U.S. has ramped up its efforts to help African governments battle the group ever since then.

However, now that President Obama has committed 100 combat advisers to the region to help finish them off, the right wing talk show host Rush Limbaugh has suddenly discovered these murderers are in fact princes among men.

Yep, apparently the fact that the LRA self-identify as Christian (sorta) is the only thing he needs to know about the situation.

Hey Rush? When you say something so staggeringly idiotic that RedState is defending the president against your claims? That's when you might want to consider paying your brain bills.

2. Rush Limbaugh's job is simply to
sling poo at Democrats and see what sticks. He has virtual immunity when he does this because his dittoheads and the 'liberal' media will never hold him accountable for his inaccuracies. It's a pretty sweet gig.

3. He's a typical Republican.

He refuses to watch the actual news (MSM), but continues to shoot his mouth off with assumed authority, never ever admitting his total ignorance of the world around him.

One can find any number of Barstool Republicans in local taverns everywhere doing exactly the same thing after a long day of AM radio and Fox News.

They could at least have to common decency to feel shame, but in their world they simply pound in the puzzle pieces when they don't fit.

I had one complain about how the banks failed while Obama was president, and he sought Congress' approval to bail them out. After I explained how it happened nearly two months before the election and GW Bush worked with treas sec Henry Paulson to work out the details long before Obama took the oath. I continued with dates, names, and quotes to lay out the timetable and players involved. With a blank look on his face, he stated simply: "No he didn't, it was Obama". He admittedly had no details of the bailout at all, just that he "knew" Obama did it. What else can you say to someone like that?

4. You should have put that word "sorta" in the title.
I realize Christian bashing is the norm on this site, but that was a bit much.
Only self identifying as Christian doesn't mean living up to Christ's instruction. That takes some effort.
"child abductors, rapists, mutilators, thieves and murderers " does not describe most Christians nor Christ's teachings.
However, Rush is supporting them apparently, not even really all that surprised at this point.

6. Then they should have, though the website that comes from looks like an Etch A Sketch.
However, Limbaugh is as repulsive as ever, no surprise there.

10. I did not see any bashing in that headline, but that's just me

And the bashing I see is directed at fundies...in that I am an equal opportunity basher, regardless of religion.

7. suggestions for getting to limbaugh

below are a few suggestions from my recent diary:

http://www.dailykos.com/...

"Some of those stations might be good places to protest. It should be routine to check RW radio stations if planning a march route. Those are Republican and Tea Party headquarters. Some in politics and media may be very grateful to see it.

Universities and pro teams that broadcast their athletics on those stations need to be asked if they agree with the racism and global warming denial and attacks on public sector workers and unions. Most universities have 'mission statements' that would not allow them to associate with those stations if taken seriously. Petitions might help.

Local sponsors of those stations need to be asked if they agree with the Limbaughs and Hannitys. Most local advertisers will not defend the Limbaughs and will tell you they are there for business reasons that often don't make sense when the long-term pro-big business function of RW talk radio is factored in. Even if their ads usually air during the Broncos game the most important function of the station is to elect Republicans and sell an undemocratic pro-corporate agenda. Those stations played a big part in glorifying Wall Street greed, lying us into Iraq, defeating health care and election reforms the last 20 years, and are now delaying action on climate change.

When those stations finally feel challenged and have to worry about dwindling ad revenue some will have to start looking for more balanced programing. And when media and politicians that have been intimidated or enabled by RW radio see those stations finally challenged they may think twice about repeating the talking points. And maybe some of those Republicans and blue dogs will stop cowering when Limbaugh and Hannity mention their name. Bipartisanship may even be possible."

and i would add: bring him out into the open and he will melt. dems, pres obama, need to mention hm as leader of the GOP.

that recognition of his ability, as leader of the talk radio monopoly, the guy who gets first dibs on the daily coordinated think tank material that goes to all RW talkers, to take the tone of the country right, to make the racism and global warming denial acceptable, can destroy him.

8. Easiest job in the world: Rush Limbaugh's fact-checker
It's clear that Limbaugh is simply out to demagogue this issue, and anything he can say against the Obama administration is peachy keen with him and his demented audience. What's most distressing about this - aside from the lawless resistance army styling itself as Christian and committing these atrocities - is that the popular media will continue to seek out Limbaugh's opinion on the issues of the day, and provide him with a platform and a microphone to say whatever crosses his tiny little mind. As if his untrammeled three hours a day, five days a week is just too constricting for all the wisdom Limbaugh has to spew.

What will it take for responsible media outlets to repudiate this loathesome voice?

9. My rightwing brother-in-law had to turn off Fox News
because he couldn't stand Obama being bashed for sending in the 100 "advisors" after the Lord's Resistance Army. He's retired military - and had first-hand experience with the horrors of these terrorists. He called my husband, his brother, and said "I'm proud of YOUR President. I've been asking for this for years." So - while I have mixed feelings about our involvement - and sending in "advisors" (reminds me too much of our pre-war Viet Nam tactics), I am gratified to see that at least a few conservatives are recognizing the duplicity of their rightwing media. Limbaugh is lazy and not intellectually curious. He represents his audience well.
