Write to Gov, Jerry Brown of CA regarding OccupyOakland.

Dear Governor Brown,

I am writing as a concerned voter in the state of California, my concern is mostly the use of excessive force by the Oakland PD on what was a first amendment assembly of American citizens in one of our cities.

They used flashbangs, teargas, rubberbullets and shotgun beanbags, yet have denied use of excessive force. They have even denied the use of the flashbangs, even though they are clearly in use from the video's linked below.

How are you, as Governor of this great state, going to repsond to the attacking of your peoples by the police? Do you stand with the police force and embattled Mayor of Oakland or with the people and the rights guaranteed in the Constitution?

Do you think it's acceptable that veterans who fought for our rights are now being hospitalized by police in full riot gear? Your silence on this issue will be deafening.

You are a lawyer and I believe an honorable man. Don't turn a blind eye. Please. The people of California, the people of the world, are watching.

Thank you.

That was the letter I just sent. I'll post a response if/when I get one.

2. K&R. Thanks for posting link. Text of my email below:
Dear Governor Brown:

Why are you still silent about the use of excessive force on your constituents last night by members of the Oakland Police Department? You may not approve of or agree with the Occupy Oakland demonstrators, but you are their governor too. As such, you have a responsibility to speak on their behalf.

Color me very disappointed and dismayed.

Sincerely,

xxxx

3. Ok. I will too.
It's appalling. Do they really think they can make the entire movement go away?

4. My email to Governor Brown...
Dear Governor Brown,

I've been an Alaska resident now for 27 years, but I lived the first half of my life in California. I remember you from your first governorship, so I was shocked to read this morning that California Highway Patrol officers assisted the Oakland PD, along with police brought in from other communities, in the violence perpetrated on the Occupy Oakland protestors.

First, the very need to bring in additional resources proves something that the Status Quo should take very seriously. That is, as the outrage grows, there will not be enough police officers to contain it.

Second, thank you for your part in helping to spread the outrage. I don't have to tell you that Gandhi said, "First they ignore you; then they laugh at you; then they fight you; then you win." Things are going according to plan, aren't they?

Regards,

Dear Gov. Brown,

I am requesting that you make a statement in reference to the intense police activity towards the Occupy Wall Street Oakland protest site. Right now, there is an Iraq Veteran who was hit by a police projectile, and is currently in the hospital in serious condition. You must speak on this, and you cannot be concerned about the Mayor of Oakland, and why she ordered this, as she should not have.

Protestors must have the right to peacefully assemble in protest, and even the breaking of city ordinances cannot take priority or be an excuse for brutality initiated by our police force against American Citizens' rights.

During the Arab Spring, the police in Egypt did not attack the protestors, and I'm sure that they could have found an excuse to do so. Oakland is a very Democratic city, as is this state, and so it goes that there must be a statement emanating from you decrying the brutalities committed, no matter who does the deed. In this case, the police action has been hyperbolic and serves no good purpose, and it should not be allowed to continue.

Please contact Pres. Obama about sending in National Guards if you see fit, as we, as citizens cannot be harmed simply because we choose to protest inequities in our system, period. It is our constitutional right and perhaps even our duty, and I support these rights, as they are enshrined in our constitution. These are some of the rights that our Veterans have fought for and died for, for many years.

Thank you for your assistance in this matter, as there is no time to lose.

Peace,

An average small business owner in Oakland who votes consistently,
XXXXXXXX

6. Dear Voter, thank you for your concern..
Rest assured that the anarchist group formerly known as Occupying Wall Street will be dealt with as harshly as the law can be tortured to allow.

Remember to always vote Democratic,

Jerry

7. We will wait for the Governor's words,
Edited on Wed Oct-26-11 06:10 PM by FrenchieCat
and bookmark yours, in case they are wrong.

Sometimes, we just have to wait, instead of snarkily putting words in other people's mouths.
The governor is not the enemy......he just needs to get his facts straight and then speak.

That's what I'm waiting for....not the snark.

BTW, are you writing a letter or not?

8. The 1% are the enemy..
And that's who the politicians work for, not the 99%.

My daughter married into a political family at the county level where we lived, I got to see how it works up close just on that level and it wasn't pretty.

I snark because sometimes it's snark or scream.

9. Fine for you......
I understand....
But will you be writing a letter,
because that's what this thread is about,
encouraging as many as possible to do so...
in particular those who live in California.
This thread is not about snark, it's about action! :patriot:

10. Writing letters isn't action..
I tried advocating handwritten letters to politicians here on GD sometime back, it went over like jalapeno and garlic ice cream.

13. May I suggest a handwritten letter and then fax it?
Letters are often subject to long delays due to security these days, faxes are immediate and if it's hand written it really stands out because it's obviously not astroturfing.

14. If you really want to make the maximum impact as quickly as possible..
Hand write a letter, scan it or photograph it and then fax it.

You can fax via the internet for free.

16. No, a fax gets more attention than an email...
Precisely because email is so easy to do, they get flooded with emails, faxes, particularly hand written ones, get attention.

Did you look at the post I linked to? It has a video from a politician explaining the reasoning.
