I'm missing something here.

If the fucker DID it (and there are payoffs and non-disclosure agreements, which normally don't happen when the accused is innocent), will this mean he's OUT? If the public is given "proof," will he still be the G.O.P.'s "front runner?"

Mitt Romney must be crapping his pants.

"They want THIS S.O.B., and they don;t want ME?"

3. The real problem is in how his campaign has handled this from

the start, not in anything he may have done.

He should have found a way to leak this himself, then take control of it.

I don't think there's anything that would force him out of the race. And who wants him to leave? Hearing him talk about China wanting to develop nuclear weapons forty years after they developed them...well, that's just pure comedy, right there.

5. The China statement was incredible. And this guy thinks he has the credentials to
be president of the US. What a joke. What is scary are the damn ignorant fools in this country that support him. Hell, he could say anything, they don't know, and clap like a bunch of seals.

Scary.

8. Even stranger...I think he had a good point about being asked who the president
of a certain country is. Those often really are gotcha questions.

But then he comes up with the China/nuke comment, and we find out that to him, like Palin, ALL questions are trick questions.

13. Can anyone identify the people in your " clapping picture?"
It appears to be at the Oscars. Is that Ann Miller 1st row on right and Judy Garland (last 2nd row?)

23. OOh Raygun! He was a democrat back then.
I would guess the year at 1940 (judging from Ann Miller's hair style). Maybe '39.

12. Should I care?
I'm already no voting for this guy. Meanwhile people that vote Republican have an overwhelming ability not to care about these issues. In the rather odd reversal the more a Republican gets accused of these things, the more they somehow get to play the victim card. The more Republicans will rally around them. If I were the accuser, I'd wait to the general election when a vastly more sympathetic audience is likely to tune in. Now, the audience most likely to care doesn't pick the GOP candidate, and the people that pick the GOP candidate seem to feed on turning stories of wrong doing into self victimhood.

27. None of the Repugs can debate Obama.
Huntsman is the only one that has a brain with memory cells. By that, I mean Romney can't recall all his flipflops and Obama will wrap him in barbed wire.

20. Actually, settlements and non-disclosure agreements do not indicate that
Edited on Fri Nov-04-11 03:54 PM by JDPriestly
the defendant did what he was accused of doing.

Very often it just means that the cost to the defendant of defending against the claims would be higher than the cost of settling.

So, you have to know how large the settlement was to gauge whether the defendant thought he would probably lose if he tried to defend himself.

It's a cost/benefit analysis in the end.

Don't jump to conclusions.

Cain may be offering more money for the women's silence -- or he may have gone to court to enforce the non-disclosure agreement (or threatened to do so).

Maybe they have a non-disclosure and arbitration clause in there.

Just don't jump to conclusions.

It isn't that I sympathize with Cain, but it's just the way it is with settlements.

25. I'm not disagreeing with that, but I am saying that the simple
fact of a settlement in a civil case, or a plea bargain in a criminal case does not prove liability or guilt.

Defendants very frequently settle claims and pay small amounts of damages for allegations of things they did not do. They settle because it is less costly than paying an attorney.

If there were repeated accusations, then it is a different matter. I haven't followed Cain's story that closely. He does strike me as a person who has little respect or compassion for others. Some of his comments have been cruel.
