Woo-hoo! Occupy Anchorage got some arrests!
Edited on Sat Nov-05-11 08:56 PM by Blue_In_AK
We have arrived. :)

We had a little "action" this afternoon, marching to the Wells Fargo branch at the Fifth Avenue Mall, then someone threw a bunch of fake money out on the floor in front of the bank followed by four people in hazmat suits sweeping up the dirty money, the toxic assets, you get the picture. Lots of chanting going on, "Banks got bailouts, we got sold out." All the shoppers stop and take pictures with their cell phones, then the mall police went all Dirty Harry, taking people down to the ground and pushing people around. It was great.

Two people were held and were given citations for trespassing -- even though we were in the common area -- but the really cool part is that the Anchorage Police came by the encampment, wanting details, and suggesting that anyone who had undue force used against them should file an assault complaint against the mall cops. The Anchorage chief of police actually was there, and he said no protesters have been arrested in Anchorage, and he sees no reason to start now. I'm thinking the two who got the citations will probabloy be let off.

Anyway, it was a lot of fun, and we came out on top. People in the mall were cheering. :)

I'll post some photos later. I'm having some issues with my computer, but I'll get them up as soon as I can.

APD has been wonderful through all of this ... I've got to give them props. Maybe because they (or more accurately their union) have been under attack by our conservative mayor. I think basically they're sympathetic to the cause.

But, yeah, the mall cops were out of control. And there were people taking pictures and video EVERYWHERE. I'm sure it'll be popping up on YouTube.

20. THAT is the most ridiculous pic I have seen in a long time.
Maybe it is because of the overdone uniforms combined with the stupid hats..or..I dunno..

5. I know.
That was really the best part of the whole experience. We were all so pumped afterwards. Some of us old-timers were saying it was the most fun we'd had since the '60s. :hippie:

8. Chase called the cops on us
But we were packing up by then. The cops put on a stern countenance, but were very nice.

CalFire truck gave us a BIG toot of the horn when they returned from a run.

I understand that this occupy thing is everywhere.....it's a work of art, a thing of beauty
and a revolution all rolled into one.

Lately when people ask me what i'm doing the rest of the night.....I say I am going home to watch the revolution.
