McDonald’s to serve pure maple syrup in Vermont

By Reuters
Posted today at 4:07 p.m.

McDonald’s Big Macs and Chicken McNuggets are served the world over, but only in Vermont can diners at the fast-food giant now get pure maple syrup with their oatmeal.

Vermont Gov. Peter Shumlin announced Thursday that McDonald’s USA has agreed to offer pure Vermont maple syrup or sugar with its Fruit and Maple Oatmeal menu item, beginning in February.

Vermont is the nation’s largest producer of maple syrup, and it upholds strict maple laws.

The state previously said McDonald’s use of maple in its advertising for its oatmeal did not meet regulations because it did not actually contain maple.

For now, the pure Vermont maple syrup will be offered only in-state, but Shumlin said he would encourage McDonald’s to use the state’s prize crop elsewhere.

23. Is that huge? Because if it is, I can't eat it...I mean, literally...the tacos are even a bit much..
and I'm not tiny...but there is only so much room...

24. Bigger than a regular taco
I get it sans lettuce. It's a soft gordita, cheese, hard taco shell filled with "meat", cheese and a spicy cheese sauce. I like it cause it's cheesy, spicy and has the soft and crunchy textures.

27. I was born and raised in Texas so I remember the smaller tacos at El Fenix in Dallas.
I was used to the smaller varieties...this whole deviation is kinda strange to me, but I am in CT now, which I love...however, until my mother died in 05 I was in TX lots and went to El Fenix with her...she loved mexican food, as she was born and raised in El Paso...

Where I live there's a bunch of hole in the wall Mexican places to indulge in. *drool*

I feel for you up in CT. I couldn't live without good Mexican places near by.

29. Don't feel bad...we have the best pizza you'll ever eat (in the U.S. that is...Italy/Sicily is
another story). Here in New Haven I have a LOT of excellent restaurants to choose from: Turkish (a fave of mine), Spanish, French, Portuguese, and practically anything Asian...plus, I am only an hour and a half by train to NYC and a day of dining and museums...heaven to ME...

26. If you want to get technical about it
Maple syrup is a better way to sweeten things compared to most other choices

I would need to research it a little but I am reasonably certain this is an improvement compared to the imitation maple flavored concoction that most McDonald restaurants would carry.
