Far-right presidential candidate unveils vision of strong, closed France
http://www.washingtonpost.com/world/europe/frances-far-right-presidential-candidate-pushes-for-exit-from-euro-border-controls/2011/11/19/gIQAvytdbN_story.html

French far-right presidential candidate Marine Le Pen unveiled her vision for the country to hundreds of cheering supporters Saturday, advocating again for an exit from the euro and tighter border controls.

During a speech that lasted more than an hour, Le Pen hammered home the traditional promises of her Front National party: strengthening France, preserving family values, fighting immigration and rejecting globalization.

Le Pen, who inherited the leadership of the Front National from her father Jean-Marie Le Pen, has said she wants to broaden appeal for her party, known for its anti-immigration, anti-Islam views.

But she reiterated calls for tighter surveillance of the borders, calling for customs posts to be placed at the frontier. Within the European Union, goods and people now cross most borders without such checks.

1. Guess we aren't the only country with right wing nuts
wonder what "preserving family values" means in French terms?

2. She'll be banging on about immigration in typical rightist fashion.
But she'll also be recommending tariffs on certain goods imported from certain countries. Both so as to stimulate the French economy and jobs for the French in France. This will resonate in USA, I understand, and not only on the nutjob right.

4. Le Pen....again.
She's back for more, nutty as her daddy!

Never a dull moment.

5. It's a bit of a smear, I think, to say she 'inherited' the post.
If the membership of the Front National wasn't happy with her, I'm sure she wouldn't be there now.

She's a smooth political (and media) operator. Beware.
