Sandusky has hired a private investigator to study sex-abuse claims, his attorney says

Jerry Sandusky is conducting his own investigation into the claims of child sexual abuse.

The former coach and charity founder is working with a private investigator, his attorney Joe Amendola confirmed for The Patriot-News.

Sandusky has been charged with 40 counts of abuse against eight boys over 15 years. Since his Nov. 5 arrest, police have been taking tips and at least three more alleged victims have come forward.

Several more independent investigations have also opened, including one by the U.S. Department of Education, which has agents at Penn State today gathering documents and interviewing staffers about compliance with The Clery Act, a federal law dealing with crime on campuses.

Amendola has said that Sandusky is innocent of the charges, and that he flat out denies any sexual conduct and the allegations of prolonged abuse. Amendola said some of the acts described by victims -- like touching or naked shared showers -- might have been misinterpreted by the alleged victims.

Sandusky, his attorney and his Secret Squirrel better be careful about approaching people who have been to the police or those who have possibly been abused and are considering it. They might get slapped with an obstruction of justice charge among other things.
