Survivors in hard-hit Oklahoma town: 'We are truly blessed'

Paul Lord's home is a shambles, and a large bandage is draped across his head -- not from four previous brain surgeries he had endured but from the plywood that smacked him while he was outside trying to warn a family across the street about a coming tornado.

And yet Sunday, the Woodward, Oklahoma, resident was all about giving thanks.

Thankful for the neighbors who, after the twister slammed through his and other homes, had rushed over and picked up the washer and driver sitting atop his grandson. Another grandson had been blown away from the house, only to be found with two big cuts on his arm.

Lord also expressed appreciation for staff at Woodward Regional Hospital who, he said, had treated him and his family with a minimum of paperwork and maximum of caring and expertise

IMHO if God had wanted to bless them, they would have had a marshmallow storm.

1. Oh...I can understand that...
I would feel thankful, too for surviving that. He and his family could be dead...or injured in some way that they'd be disabilitated.

Anyone would feel lucky to be alive and if they are religious would say blessed...or if not they might just say I'm lucky I survived.

I'm glad for that family. These tornadoes are doing terrible damage everywhere. And, it's been going on since last Fall..with towns being wiped out and crazy stuff in places even that don't usually have tornado activity... :-(

2. .I understand your point.
I don't knew about taking everything as a personal favor from God to you. I will leave that to the professional theologians and philosophers.

However, surviving something is something for which to be grateful, whether you are grateful to God, a Higher Power, the Force, your stars or the luck of the draw.

And, almost dying can change people and people's lives for the better in many ways people cannot imagine before it happens to them.

3. And they'll never ever admit that may be God was punishing them for their hateful attitude toward
the poor

I know it's not...

But most of those people in that town probably think when something bad happens in other places it's because of the sin of homosexuality, or promiscuity, or failure to attend church enough or some other BS

4. Whenever anything bad happens, it's because of abortion and gays.
Doesn't matter where it happens.

Whether it's NOLA, Banda Aceh, Sodom and Gomorrah, or the Bible belt of the U.S., it's the fault of abortion and gays.

That simplifies things, doesn't it? We don't have to go finding separate reasons for each locale.
