Won't Back Down? 20th Century Fox Should gone with Won't Make This. (For Madfloridian)
Remember all the fawning over michelle flee's favorite movie "Won't Back Down?" Well, the tale of the tape is in
Won't Back Down

Stats on its opening weekend: $2,603,370 (USA) (30 September 2012) (2515 Screens)
How bad is that number you may ask?
"Won't Back Down" now holds the record for worst saturated (2,500 theaters or more) opening of all time.
That's pretty impressive

Further
Gross: 38* million dollars. Not profit people
Wow! 38* million dollars grossed for a movie with the star power it possessed and Meryl Streep plugging the movie on CBS
If you look real hard, according to IMDB, last week it was showing on 24 screens. I didn't realize that flee, murdoch and bloomberg were showing it on the screens at their houses.

Hope this makes Madfloridian a happy person

*-my numbers come from IMDB. I added up the total numbers since September that the movie grossed and it comes out to about 38 mil.

1. Not only that, but it brought bad publicity to charter schools. Nowhere near enough, but some.
Also exposed that the movie's producer is a neo theo with an agenda.

3. $1035.14 per Theater
They sell more Popcorn than that....

I wonder how much was spent on Propaganda and Advertising.

4. Thank you for that post. I knew it did not do well.
I like to think that those of us blogging and twittering about it called attention to what the movie really was....a propaganda piece.

Did you see the video of Maggie Gyllenhaal on the red carpet? She had no clue why teachers and parents were so upset. It was blatant propaganda.

5. Typical
The "I support unions, but..." crowd
Basically, she's shielding herself because she's a member of a union and the crews are unionized
I always love it when they say they're doing it for the children

6. Exactly, union actors ridiculing union teachers.
Utterly absurd.

8. Reagan was the head of the actors' union. Ask a federal employee how that worked out for them.
Edited on Tue Nov-27-12 06:48 AM by No Elephants
One of the things he did was decide that federal employees could not take two federal pensions.

So, let's say, the law was that, if you worked 25 years, you were entitled to a pension. So, you work your 25 years and then switch to another job and work 25 years in that one. And you could collect two pensions.

Well, Reagan came and said "Nope. Just one."

No notice, just bam!

I am not saying the new policy was wrong. I may even agree with it since it encourages people to switch jobs just when they should be mentoring new hires.

I am saying that you can't let people work 25 years with one understanding, then switch the rules on them with no notice or compensation.

In the private sector, that would be grounds for a lawsuit for breach of contract. And, it's dishonorable.

ETA: Oh, yes, and there was the air traffic controllers strike. He fired over 11000 of them.

So, while the union was helping him out, he couldn't get enough of it. But, when he became a boss, he was ruthless.

7. It's possible that M.G. is a clueless airhead in general.
Having show business parents and enough acting skills to get by does not mean she is also bright and well-informed.

Hopefully, the experience will give her more of a sense of responsibilty about the roles she chooses in the future, but, if she doesn't get it about this movie, maybe she's just too self absorbed. It happens.
