Poll question: Cenk Uygur's opening show on MSNBC.
Edited on Mon Jan-24-11 08:39 PM by bluestate10
Cenk Uygur did his first show tonight in the new MSNBC lineup. What do you think of his performance.

9. Well, Keith is gone,be thankful we still got Ed, Chris, Rachel, etc
I will not stop listening to MSNBC because It is about the only station that plays our
"music', you know what I mean, CNN I don't see much of our "music" and FOX is
the station of the Demonic Tribe of Hell.

I liked Cenk, and I will be able to enjoy Ed to the fullest, in bed, warm and cozy
not hurrying back and forth from the kitchen at dinner time.

Obama Grooves. the Right Way.

19. Because I can. Are you saying that DUers may only respond to certain threads?
It's an open discussion and as long as the rules are followed anybody may respond to any thread. This should be a simple concept, evidently it is not.

2. Not the best show today but...
Edited on Mon Jan-24-11 08:43 PM by ihavenobias
Doesn't help that he was in Miami for a conference and not 30 Rock (they had massive technical issues, prompter kept freezing, audio cut out during that last interview, etc.). He's flying out Wednesday to host at 6pm EST in NYC, so jet lag and new studio aside I expect it'll be better by the end of the week.

But yes, generally speaking he's much better unscripted and being himself. He needs to adjust to reading off a teleprompter.

3. His TV show needs to revamp and be more like his online show
Cenk needs to be more like Cenk, and not a talking head reading a teleprompter.
Also, his TV show needs better music.
And some catchy segment names.

4. It's not his show at this time, keep that in mind.
Edited on Mon Jan-24-11 08:55 PM by ihavenobias
Right now he's filling-in. He's doing his best filling into a format custom-built for someone else, so it takes time to make those adjustments.

People tend to forget that. If he gets his own show that's another story.

5. So he's filling in? I thought MSNBC gave him that time slot for good.
Edited on Mon Jan-24-11 08:54 PM by Tx4obama
p.s. You got a boo boo in your other topic line.
I think you meant: now s/b not

p.s.s. MSNBC needs to hurry up and give that time slot to Cenk so he can tweek it up so his ratings can go up!

8. I'm certainly hoping that he'll get his own show
A lot of us here have been hoping for that for awhile. Cenk is one of the good guys, as outspoken on TV as he is on TYT, and we need more of that, these days, more than ever... *sigh* :hi:

10. I thought this was going to be his show not just a fill-in
it seems like for weeks MSNBC has been grooming him for a spot of his own. I guess will see though in a couple of weeks or so.

7. I think he was great
You could tell he was a little more nervous than usual as first but he came around and took that GOProud dude to task, Cenk literally dismantled the guys belief system on national TV, it was kind of brutal. Also, his interview with Frances Fox Piven about Glenn Beck was fantastic and I was really glad to see this story talked about on a major news program.

I think by the end of the week he will have relaxed and slowly begun making the show more like TYT, he just needs to break free from the same formula as all the other shows and be honest and casual like he is on TYT.

11. I think so too. It's just going to take him a little time
to get comfortable and make it his own. After all he hasn't had more than the weekend to prepare.

15. Cenk is great, but with Keith gone there's a dark cloud at MSNBC
I've been waiting a LONG time for Cenk to get a time slot at MSNBC.
But now with the news of Keith the fact that Cenk being on all week isn't as exciting as it would have been pre-KO-departure ;(

I am hoping that Keith will find some billionaires to fund a NEW left leaning TV news network.
Then Keith, Cenk, Maddow, Schuster, Sam Seder, Roseanne Barr, Michael Moore, and a bunch of other liberals could their own shows where they can say what they want to say!

21. He seemed more nervous
than usual and he flubbed his lines quite a bit, which is weird because one would think he already would've gotten used to this by now. He also was way too soft on the Log Cabin Republican and allowed him to get away with his smears on liberals. Cenk should have dismantled that little prick but he was way too patient with him, imo. He didn't have his usual fiery passion he is known for, he allowed himself to be walked all over, he screwed up his lines, and his performance was pretty dull. It was pretty mediocre at best. The show itself though, is terrible. The music sucks, the graphics suck, the format sucks, the overall production sucked.

Right now he is giving Bob Shrum a reaming for repeating Centrist (Republican) talking points.
Cenk speaks for me.
I'm delighted he now has a national voice.

gay conservative republican on last night's show. Cenk seems confused about who to go after. He should have pounded the GOPPROUD clown that was spewing non-stop about how it has been democrats that have abused gays and how proud he is to me a member of a party that would burn him on a stake if democrats did not prevent that end. Yet Cenk sat there like a stump on a log, but today comes out clawing and ripping at President Obama.
