Concerning the fellow who was fired for wearing a Green Bay tie...
This incident made me think of something else. If YOU were the owner of a business and an employee insisted on wearing a tie saying " I Love W" or "Obama is a Muslim" or even "Dittohead", what would you do?

1. I would say
Clothing with writing on it is against company policy, unless the writing is the company logo or a company trademark. Politics has no place in the office. Now go home and change into clothes appropriate for a work environment.

5. It's a matter of an employee deliberately alienating customers
and causing harm to his employer's business.

The guy was asked five times to get rid of the tie, and he was warned he'd be fired if he didn't -- I wonder if the employee was trying to generate a little money-maker lawsuit for himself.

If I worked at a Pro-Life organization, would I be allowed to wear a "Keep Abortion Legal" shirt?

3. I don't know
Firing him was a bit over the top, but wearing a packers tie in chicago at this time, is the equivalent of trolling in real life. Its just a slap in the face at this point. If you a fan fine, but wait a few months till baseball season starts and people forget about the football season.

13. Heck, I wouldn't even say a few months - just wait until Super Bowl week
I actually haven't read the articles, but firing does sound a bit extreme. On the other hand, if dress policies of some sort are in place and he was told to change but refused, I can see where it would become a more serious violation than than just a trollish tie...

4. Getting you mad at Green Bay or any other team is training
in order to make it easier to hate the next Boogieman,

If people don't know how to hate, it's a lot more difficult to get them to go to war.

Sports teams are like opposing armies, as context.

You don't see many, if any, Liberal team owners.

9. Well...
...I hope that his noble stand for the Packers is enough to feed and shelter his family.

Moron...if the boss says 'take off the tie or lose your job' - you take off the tie. It is not oppression, it is not censorship - it is a business that has the right to dictate the fashion and appearance of its employees. That is the real world. Learn to deal with it or get eaten by it.

12. He got another job today AND, he will probably sue
his past employer for wrongful termination. Not sure what the laws are in Illinois, but I was told that he will have a case.

11. Sometimes people are idiots and
make stands for totally inappropriate things.

Teens often whine about rules concerning what they can wear to school. If they do it in front of me, I always point out that the vast majority of jobs out there have far stricter dress codes than most schools.
