Unfortunately, we in MD Dist 1 got a Tea Party backed congressman this year. He and many others were elected partly due to the stance on Health care reform. WE need to let all our representatives know that the view of the Tea Party on HCR is NOT the view of "The majority of Americans".
The newly elected congress said they were there to cater to the wants and needs of all Americans. Let's tell them what we want!
I'm not a good writer but I think you'll get the gist. Why not drop your rep. a note. HCR is too important to let go down the tubes. here's my little scribe:
Dear Mr. Harris, I'm disappointed with your vote on the repeal of health care, especially after you demanded coverage for you and your family before being sworn in. I believe you are a Dr. of some sorts. Can't you afford to buy health care for your family? Well, I'm a musician and am reaching the point where I can not afford $1,200.00 a month for insurance.
Mr. Harris, surely you don't believe that America has the "Best health care system in the world" do you? I believe we are ranked 58th in the world. Sure, people come here from other countries for treatment if they can afford it. We do have some of the best facilities but the system is broken. Yes, as Republicans say, we do need tort reform but that's a small part of the problem. Buying insurance across state lines, another Republican solution would result in a race to the bottom. Insurance companies would set up shop in the states with the least regulation and continue to rape their customers.
Mr Harris, the bill is not perfect. Parts of it just stink but it is a start. The ideal option would be single payer and then let the insurance companies compete for the business. Free markets!!
In closing, I want you to know that your stand on HCR helped get you elected. Ad I'm sure you know, most of the public opposition to HCR was based on lies circulated by well organized, well funded opposition groups. There are no "Death Panels" and it is NOT a government take over of health insurance. It's not socialism or communism. In it's currant form, it's just a big give away to the insurance companies. If you hope to retain your seat, I suggest you change your stance and help improve the bill. You of all people should know how badly broken the system is. Let's change it. We'll be watching you. Thank You, Chip Butler
