Can you help with something rather urgent for tomorrow?
In response to the State of the Union, Republicans made clear that they intend to cut Social Security.
House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) said only those currently "55 and older" would be spared and House Budget Chair Paul Ryan (R-WI) said only "people in and near retirement will be protected."
Translation? For everyone currently less than 55, and for all future seniors, Republicans want to gut the most popular and successful government program ever -- a program that has a $2.5 trillion surplus and which American workers paid for and earned.
Senator Harry Reid has gone farther than any other Democratic leader in vowing to protect Social Security and debunking Republican lies about a "crisis." Tomorrow afternoon, we will deliver over 45,000 thank-you notes from around the nation to Sen. Reid -- in person. Can you help us reach 50,000 notes by tomorrow's delivery. Click here to see video of Reid's bold remarks and add your name to the thank-you note.
On Meet The Press recently, Reid was asked if America should "fundamentally change" Social Security to deal with the national debt (even though Social Security has a separate trust fund and has a $2.5 trillion surplus).
Many other Democrats have flubbed this question, but Reid nailed it. He said, "Social Security is a program that works...It's not in crisis. This is something that's perpetuated by people who don't like government. Social Security is fine."
Thanks for being a bold progressive.

The link will bring you to the page that will ask if you're me so you'll have to click to enter your name. (I couldn't find it when I went to the site independently but maybe you'll be more successful than I.)
And they're right. Nobody but Reid (that I can recall) has actually come out and say Social Security is NOT broken.
