I've come for some sanity.
Unfortunately as crazy as this place is, my Union's FB page is even loonier.
For the past few weeks I have posted info about other News sources since they have been bitching and complaining about the MSM. I guess being the happy little idealist I am, I assumed they would appreciate it. Apparently not. They consider Faux News as reliable.

I have seen word for word postings on Glen Beck's view of the world. I have seen them stick up for
the insanely rich, downgrading their own, I mean my head is spinning. I don't know where to start with them. Even after spending 20 yr. among the dinosaurs, I hoped that they would have seen the light with the Wisconsin thing going on, realizing they better fight for what they have. Silly me, I am like a dog that gets kicked and comes back for more, hoping maybe this time....

I just can't. I can't do it anymore. I have no hope for them. i don't know what it will take. And after reading the Mother Jones article explaining what went wrong between the Democratic Party and Labor Unions, I guess I have my answer. It was the Hippies, and Abortion. Labor Unions couldn't deal with that so they walked away from the Democratic candidate at the time who backed them, stood behind them. And it's when the Democratic party turned it's back on Labor.

How in the world do you get them to move forward, and embrace progressive ideals, to save their jobs? Their livelihood? And how do I save my sanity, while having to walk amongst them?

1. I think things will have to get very bad before some
people understand. They will have to be in a position where they have nothing left to lose before they will fight back. Maybe we will have to turn into a third world country before some of them see the light.

During the thirties, there were many people who fought because they literally had nothing.

But the thing is how in the hell are they going to find the truth? I feel like they will come out fighting the wrong people

7. I will say I am in Construction

And after 20 yrs I am seriously considering leaving, I love being in a Union, I love my trade, but unfortunately like I described in the OP I need to leave for my sanity.
Females were forced upon them, they don't like it, don't take us seriously, and really it undermines everything you do. Sure, they have their "mouthpieces" who crow about how their career has been great (chosen ones). You can't tell me I didn't have those experiences I had. There were some really great guys, guys who really took you under their wing. But they are outnumbered.

I have signed up for some classes (healthcare field) to hopefully train for another career. it will be a 25 an hr paycut, and I will probably have to work two jobs, but it would be worth it. I don't think you can imagine what it's like to be up til 1130 at night get up at 5 drop the kid off at daycare, go to a job where they will A) ignore you B) Scream at you C) piss in your hardhat(true)
D) Tell you repeatedly you should be at home E) Tell you after 20 yrs you don't know how to use a drill and then go home, cook, clean whatever for another 6 hrs and look forward to tomorrow.
Here is another one. Have some punk-ass Foreman that started 15 yrs after you pull you on the side alone and interrogate you as to why you got in the trade, what you like about it, what are your specialties. It wasn't to be friendly.

Before I forget, add to all that above sitting on a concrete floor for lunch, working outside in any and all weather, rain, snow, wind, 20 below, 90 with 90 humidity, having bathrooms where there is piss all over, no place to wash your hands, being told to pee in the crawlspace cause there are no bathrooms. I did it, I proved myself I have nothing left to prove.

9. First of all, let me congratulate you on your chutzpa, your guts, whatever you want to call it.

on both your decision to join (I think of myself as a gutsy woman, but I'd never have the "ovaries", if you will, to do that job)

Wow..I can just imagine dealing with those guys..I didn't even like passing them on the street in my younger years..

Do they still do that cat-calling thing?

You're the first woman I've met in construction, but not the first I've known in a traditionally male field. One of my best

friends joined the police force in the mid-seventies in Philadelphia and was one of the first woman on the force...She had

plenty of horror stories, but she managed, over time...She even punched out one or two, I believe.

Hell..I even met a woman who became an electrician and she told me SHE was hounded out of her job by harrassement...These men really suck!

Best of luck to you in your new field...I feel for you, what with having the responsibilities you have.

I have an idea I'm going to pm you about...Stay tuned.

12. Thanks.
If it was cat-calling I could have dealt with that. In fact I would have welcomed it. It was never the "traditional" view of sexual harassment.

I went into it with enjoying being around the guys, my whole family is in the trades. But alot of them still think like "conservatives" a woman's place and all.

5. You have to have the sanity inside.
It is possible for many things externally to not make sane sense, for instance I am due beer and travel money and many experiences, yet that is not here yet, and should be, and will be, because that is just and compassionate.

You know what some think, that I have to fight to keep what I have. Fuck that, I am due what is not here, why would I fight for what I have. They already owe beer and travel money, not going to fight for their amusement.

everything between that debt and its paying, is some form of irrelevant passing of the days.

Because I am due beer and travel money and many experiences, and I don't have to fight for that, it is due, and thinking I have to fight for it would be some deal or strings attached.

In the same way threatening to try and take anything else, which doesn't mean anything anyways, is just to try to get you in a game playing type thought. Trying to get people to fight to keep something that is theres? What kind of society is that?

I do think people should stand up for their wages, and what is right, but don't fight, just blow their head off. Metaphorically at least, no reason to fight. Side note, I don't fight, I just post videos, because it would be dumb to fight for what is already mine, or to keep something when what is already mine is not here.
