The difference between our protesters and their protesters
Edited on Tue Feb-22-11 02:12 PM by LynneSin
It's interesting to be able to compare the actions of the Union/Anti-walker protesters vs. the Tea Party Protesters. Those fighting against Walker have put the Tea Party to shame.

For the last year we saw the Tea Party show up to a protest with their lawn chairs in hand and their guns packing where they would sit for a few hours and hold misspelled protest signs. After a few hours they go home where they can watch wall-to-wall coverage of their protest on Faux News and other Corporate News Channels.

Whereas it seems the Pro-Union/Anti-Walker protesters are showing us how it is really done. They know what's at stake is important and they try their best to have large numbers surrounding the Capital each day. They are active in their action but non-violent in their nature (although someone said Wisconsin has stricter gun laws). They do this not because it's a fun way to spend a few hours in the afternoon but because their lives depend on it.

The saddest thing is this, even though the Pro-Union/Anti-Walker protesters are larger in numbers and protesting everyday, they'll barely get a blip on the evening news.

1. Union protests are also usually well organized
The unions know how to do it right.

I'm suspecting there's also a union rule banning lawn chairs:)

3. Our side is also fighting "the good fight". Their side is just mad in general
There's a big difference between fighting for your very existence, and fighting out of some abstract anger and in favor of your "team".

If the Right Wing plutocrats win this, all they are really doing is solidifying their previous gains. If they lose, it's really just status quo, at least for the next few years till the pendulum hopefully swings toward the working class.

In the case of the state employees protesting, victory is really the only path to survival there is. Losing would be "lights out".

Lots at stake here. This aint a horse race or sports contest, as the media would like to cover it as.
