Breaking: Citizens locked out of Statehouse, Lawsuits being filed!
by Joseph on February 22, 2011 · View Comments

Thousands are rallying in front of the Statehouse – but we’re hearing it’s nearly empty inside. No one is being allowed to enter the building and flyers are being passed out urging citizens to call John Kasich and Senate President Neihaus to tell them to “open up the Statehouse NOW.”

We’re hearing legal actions are also being taken. Don McTigue is rumored to be filing on behalf of concerned citizens, petitioning AG DeWine to open the Statehouse. If he does not comply a lawsuit will be filed asking for immediate relief.

do these governors realize that the whole nation is watching? It ain't gonna make them look good with a large swath of the population. It is making them look great with those who actually benefit, but still JAYSUS... there are days.

19. He already has his pals lined up to be the agents for selling our turnpike.
Fucking Republicans want to privatize everything held in common by taxpayers.

Like Mitch Daniels did in Indiana...their turnpike is now falling apart, and the foreign consortium that owns it is bankrupt.

14. ...while one state west...
...Indiana Democrats have followed Wisconsin's lead and left the state for parts unknown. Glad to see people rising up against this right-wing assault on unions and their members. What's incredible to me are the number of anti-union people I've talked to who were able to have a good life because one or both of their parents were union members. Amazing!

34. I had a friend who would bitch endlessly about union dues.
I had to explain to him that his much higher wages, benefits, and safety conditions more than made up for those dues. Funny, with all the bitching he was never willing to go to another company without those dues. He couldn't afford to take the pay cut even though he had to pay those evil union dues.

Welcome to DU. :hi:

18. "patrol SWAT vehicle stationed across Third Street from the Statehouse"
With a patrol SWAT vehicle stationed across Third Street from the Statehouse and heavy security across the grounds, the patrol allowed only about 750 inside the Capitol. Seats were placed in the Atrium so the protesters could listen to the scheduled testimony of about 15 opponents to the bill at a Senate committee hearing.

It's ludicrous to lock the people out of their own house.

They should file the lawsuit immediately. This cannot be legal.

29. Jeez.

My father was born in NE Ohio so that makes me one-half Ohioan, or in Texas, one-half Damn Yankee.

I love the Midwestern solidness of Ohioans and I only felt at home and among MY PEOPLE when I was with my dad, and his sister and brother, in Ashtabula. It was a profound experience.

32. Unfortunately, It Can't Happen
I've been researching this issue in the hope that I could help spur a recall of Kasich, but it's simply not allowed under Ohio law. In Ohio, State-elected officials cannot be recalled. Only non-State-elected officials can be (i.e. County-elected, City-elected, Municipality-elected, et al.) And even then, you're required to wait a full year before you can begin the recall process. So unless Kasich wanders over the line and does something impeachable, we're stuck with him for 4 solid years of this nonsense.
