Sacramento woman dies of injuries sustained 57 years ago; Police deem death homicide
SACRAMENTO, CA - The death of a 57-year-old woman on Jan. 18 was deemed a homicide after autopsy reports found she died of injuries she sustained in 1954.

Sacramento County Coroner's Office said Sandra Smith died from blunt force injuries to her head, which she got in April 1954 when she was 6-months-old, said Sacramento Police Department spokesperson Sgt. Norm Leong.

Smith was disabled and under long-term care since she was injured.

Detectives found a Sacramento Union newspaper article, which reported on the initial incident. The article said Smith was beaten unconscious by her father Andrew Smith.
