Tea party vision for Mont. raising concerns
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20110224/ap_on_re_us/us_tea_party_world

With each bill, newly elected tea party lawmakers are offering Montanans a vision of the future.

Their state would be a place where officials can ignore U.S. laws, force FBI agents to get a sheriff's OK before arresting anyone, ban abortions, limit sex education in schools and create armed citizen militias.

(snip)
Some residents, Democratic Gov. Brian Schweitzer and even some Republican lawmakers say the bills are making Montana into a laughingstock. And, they say, the push to nullify federal laws could be dangerous.

"We are the United States of America," said Schweitzer. "This talk of nullifying is pretty toxic talk. That led to the Civil War."

1. They can not nullify federal law
I'm not really sure what happens if they try though.

5. that's a little extreme, don't you think?
An awful lot of people still try anything to live in the U.S., even illegally.

Nullification and secession talk is more than just toxic.

7. Oh, and don't forget...
...one idiot up there is going to attempt to legislate the laws of physics, declaring that humans don't cause global warming and anyway, it's good for the state of Montana so there! (Never mind that one of the prime and pristine tourist attractions, Glacier National Park, is well on the way to losing ALL of its glaciers -- most are gone already).

Pffft

It breaks my heart, I grew up in Montana and love it for many reasons. But folks like that are one of the reasons that I never looked back after I left.

8. Its the same here in NH...

They have to have a list they're all following, and the funny part is that
many of the moderates who voted them in believed these guys were just
going to cut taxes and create jobs.

Well, maybe not funny...

9. I love my home state of Montana but we can always point to the shitty square state
to the south for crazy. In all seriousness, thank God Schweitzer is governor and can veto the crazy. After next year though.......:scared:
