Threads for previous days are in my journal

To make sure the Army doesn't swing the revolution to the people, with the silent complicity of world leaders more concerned about the stability of oil prices than people's lives, Qaddafi has brought in more than 35,000 North African mercenaries specifically from Chad, Nigeria, Guinea and Darfur. There's a Facebook video of a captured mercenary from Chad (Youtube here). Captured mercenaries confessed they were paid between $12,000 - $30,000 each. Today pamphlet ads were found in Nigeria offering them $2000/day for their savage work.

Is Qaddafi the only one paying these mercenaries? Or are EU governments, with their long history of hiring mercenaries, chipping in? I demand to know.

36. Why is Hague surprised? Did he ever raise an objection to his government's
role in rehabilitating and arming Qaddafi, his PM's close friendship with him? They knew what and who he was, so this sudden concern of the Libyan people is so hypocritical. Shame on all of them for the greed and lack of morals that strengthened all of these brutal dictators.

Guys FF please I have exclusive information from Tripoli and want as many people to hear it as possible. #Libya

OK guys I'm not going to mention any details to protect the people involved, I hope you understand.

The person who talks to me lives between Tajoura and Souq al Juma area, won't specify the place in detail for safetey reasons.

They witnessed protesters marching down from Tajoura to Arrada and Souq al Juma.

Before the protesters reach their destination, in Al-Hani district, they were attacked by mercenaries.

The shooting was so heavy that they could not go any further, there are documented deaths and video footage.

The protesters had to run for their lives.

The following streets saw heavy gunfire after Friday prayers: Dhamani, 1st September, Bin Ashour, Sharadoul

Mercenaries shoot and then keep quiet and listen for any noise of protests away. If they hear any they head towards it and shoot.

This casts doubts over what we've been hearing, about #Gaddafi losing control of much of the city to protesters.

What this seems to suggest is that mercenaries are very mobile and move from area to area to put down protests by deadly force.

My contact confirms that the protesters today were totally unarmed, it was a totally peaceful march.

They said an eyewitness who was with the protesters took video footage, but it's too dangerous for him to give it to them.

My contact confirmed that many people are in their homes, scared to go out, even scared to look from the window or balcony.

Once again guys I'm not giving any details that can compromise people's safety, so please excuse the vagueness

Contact also confirms that there have been clean ups by #Gaddafi troops & loyalists.

They said they can't phone out international calls, dunno if they meant they can't or they shouldn't for safety reasons.

Through another contact, also by phone, I learnt very disturbing news, about targeting any unaccompanied foreigners in Tripoli.

They said anyone seen with a camera, if not accompanied by officials, is immediately shot at.

Also reported that some Arab nationals, esp. Egyptians & Tunisians, are being rounded up and taken in buses to unknown locations.

People are allowed to leave Tripoli, but not enter it.

They report the airport is absolute chaos, many people are outside and can't get in, and some people inside have been there for days.

They also reported that travelers leaving Tripoli have had their phones confiscated, esp. if they are camera phones.

Finally I have to tell you how brave these people are. When I called on the phone, I asked if it's safe to talk.

I asked, am I putting your life in danger by talking? They said, we're all in danger anyway, go ahead, just don't mention names.

To sum up, #Gaddafi is still putting down protests. He's not holding territory though, he has mobile mercenaries going around.

OK, now I'm going to take a break and reply to some of your tweets. There are many.

Translation:

Hello Am Ahmed from Dewnya Iraq
As you may know demonstrations has bean going on all over Iraq to protest the low level of services, corruption, looting of the public money. as I said am in Qadisya city and now it’s 7:00pm. Few attacks on protesters had accord, protesters has bean dismantled by force as well as using cars, and they used the period of the power cut. Now I am standing in front of the Dewanya municipality as I see that the used the power cut or may be the cut the power on purpose and started to shoot rounds close to the protesters. As well as we heard gun shoots and then… some of the protesters and shooting and detaining others in Dewanya city. This is the democracy that Maliky is talking about. But now the situating is quite different, there are no TV channels and no one is sending the truth out.

Taking down Triploi from Gaddafi is going to take some unbelievable amount of

force from the people, imo!

I'm surprised that Gaddafi hasn't run away yet!

Remember the hopes we had for the UN before the US right so polluted its agenda?

WAM Abu Dhabi, 25th Feb. 2011 (WAM) -- UAE and Turkey are currently joining hands to deliver urgent relief assistance to the brotherly Libyan people, UAE Foreign Minister H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan affirmed today.

In a joint press conference with his visiting Turkish counterpart Ahmet Davuto?lu before capping a two-day working visit to the UAE, Sheikh Abdullah announced that two Emirati aid planes would fly tomorrow to Turkey and then to Libya to meet the urgent needs of the Libyan people.
