Gas Prices Rising: $5.29 in Florida, $4.00 in Massachusetts

WCVB-TV(NEW YORK) -- Oil prices around the world continued to soar Friday, buffeted by uncertainty in the Middle East.

Crude oil futures hovered above $103 a barrel in New York Friday morning. In London trading, oil headed for its sixth weekly gain, according to Bloomberg News.

An oil facility in Libya was reportedly damaged and on fire, the Al Jazeera news channel reported. Meanwhile, demonstrators continued to protest in Saudi Arabia, demanding the release of Shiite prisoners, according to CNN.

"I think there's a storm brewing in Saudi Arabia," said Tom di Galoma, head of fixed income rates trading with Guggenheim Securities. "All these geopolitical events in Middle East are causing oil to spike."

1. It's not up to $4 in Mass yet
I imagine it will get there thanks to the assholes who manipulate these events to ream us out every time. Glad to see the congress is so focused on jobs and lowering taxes that they have no time to investigate.

6. I'll bet it will be before long, though.
$3.40 is making me nervous, and the summer driving season is closing in fast.

2. Those are Aiport ripoff prices.
The car rental dealers make you buy gas from within a 5-10 mile radius of the airport, and they often collude with the gas stations nearby.

7. In Orlando, there are only a few stations near the airport.
The rental companies require you to show a receipt from a gas station within 10 miles, or you get hit with a penalty fee, which is pretty pricey.

It isn't the locals they are after - they are getting the rental customers.

3. Good thing Florida didn't fall for that high speed rail scam
I'm sure Floridians will be happy to pay $5 a gallon to fill up so they don't have to suffer with the convenience of high speed rail. Thanks, Gov. Scott. We'll be pleased to take those federal funds out west.

5. In VA unleaded is $3.35
It is closer to $4.00 the closer you get to DC. What I don't get is the overall cost of living is higher in the northern Virgina than Florida, but gas cost much more in Florida.

9. Geez. It's only $6 a gallon in Italy and they rely solely on Libyan oil which is shut down.
