Perhaps we can postpone nuclear energy debates for now?
The reactors in Japan are a catastrophe, so are the Iraq and Afghanistan wars-for-oil and the Gulf Coast.

Everyone's upset now, perhaps it's better to have a rational discussion about energy policy after this darkness has passed.

3. Maybe. But when exactly will the darkness pass?
Nuclear power is dangerous day or night.

Now is the time for the discussion to focus on consuming less energy.

9. All energy production is dangerous
It's a matter of balancing the disadvantages.

Is it better for 1,000 people to die at once in one place, or for 1,000 to die over a wide area over a course of time? (Neither, of course.)

I agree, we need to focus on reducing consumption as well.

10. That's totally wrong.
Why don't you try to produce the "dangers" of wind and solar? There aren't any! A wind turbine falls over, or a solar panel shatters. How can that POSSIBLY kill millions, thousands, or even hundreds?

I am so fucking sick of that statement. It's a LIE.

5. Looks like the debate is over. Nuclear power is a bad idea. Produces
dangers unique to any other power source and has waste disposal requirements far beyond the time limits of existing civilizations.

6. respectfully disagree
I don't see that there can be any remaining sane, logical argument in favor of continuing to build nuclear power plants. The potential downside is far too great, as we're currently witnessing. If they somehow, miraculously stopped and sealed everything tomorrow, we've still seen enough to know that we cannot continue to take this risk. And I know that won't stop a lot of pro nuke people from arguing the point anyway, but they'll immediately hit bedrock with their arguments, all of which are fatally flawed. I'll still engage in that argument, even moreso now.

7. K+R for rational thought.
Not pro or anti nuclear power, personally, but the current state of affairs have many people thinking and debating out of fear rather than rational thought.

8. Not discussing it is probably the worst thing we could do
This is an opportunity for everyone to learn more about the serious dangers inherit in nuclear energy, especially considering the propaganda and happy talk we are normally bombarded with.

12. Are you kidding me? I'm beginning to learn that Japan's nuclear policies directly affect me.
So yes we need to discuss this. The world should be able to veto these project if it affects us.
