Who Would American-Jesus Stone?
Stoned

by digby

Good Lord:

Authorities in Delaware County say a 70-year-old man was stoned to death with a rock stuffed in a sock by a younger friend who alleged the victim made unwanted sexual advances.

According to the criminal complaint, 28-year-old John Thomas of Lansdowne has told police he killed 70-year-old Murray Seidman because the Old Testament refers to stoning homosexuals.

2. You do realize that Jesus was in the New Testament, right?
One of the reasons He came was because the Pharisees were hardcore adherents to the letter and not the Spirit of the Law.
They were "stiff-necked" and hypocritical and opposed Christ on the basis of Old Testament reasoning and misreading of God's Law.
Of course, they had a hand in crucifying him on false pretenses.
Jesus would stone no one, He stopped stonings, in fact.
This "American-Jesus" construct you're using, doesn't exist.

5. You're missing the point.
The fact that many Christians seem to display a form of cognitive dissonance when it comes to their inability to perceive the conflict between the message of JC, and their OT leanings and desire for blood libel.

You know?, the 'ol eye for an eye, and keeping a woman in her place shtick. And the lovin' the sinner, but hatin' on his sinning homily. And the http://lezgetreal.com/2010/06/first-uganda-now-texas-wants-to-at-least-imprison-homosexuals-for-being-well-gay/">wantin' to lock 'em all up for bein' gay and all (like they're doing in Uganda) message.

- Or are you saying that irony is truly dead?

"But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not."
