Here is a question that is impotant about OUR media
I am watching Thom Hartmann on my cable channel. Now here is a problem... what is he doing on... Russian TV? This is the problem with our media. "Alternate voices" that do not puh the standard line... are marginalized, or best case... allowed to be on the dark corner of the tv or radio land.

3. Channel 222
right now they are covering the Libya thing with Scotto Horton of Harpers.. that is the program coming from DC.

Mind you, this is the ironic part... their counterparts in Russia would not be allowed this freely.

2. He's been on RussiaToday for at least six months I think. I agree with your lamentation, BTW.
When RussiaToday & Al Jazeera or even PressTV in Iran (for shit's sake!) lead the way in-depth news reporting in English I ask myself, loudly and frequently, "What the fuck?"

RT and AJ are the big ones- I've only seen PressTV's coverage of the Cairo revolution but it was solid.

I mean...damn. Another embarrassment, another let-down for American culture, IMO.

6. The more the Right repeated "This is a center right country, and
disparaged Liberals, one by one and two by two,
people from the "Left Side" were simply not
invited to participate. Any person who can
really be identified as "Left" . Maybe every
few years on C-span. Early on the first to go
were people like Noam Chomsky, H. Zinn, RIP
then the Jesse Jacksons. A few years there one
would have thought Jesse was no longer with us.
There are many articulate Liberals (real liberals)
not necessarily Lefties, you never hear from.

There is a method. If all the people ever hear
is the Right Side, what are they going to believe???

8. The Media, like all entertainment venues, sells a certain world view...
Hartmann is marginalized because he does not fit neatly into the cultural ideal.

9. RT is "Russian TV" in the same sense that France24 is "French TV", Al Jazeera is "Qatari TV"...
or BBC World is "British TV". Which is to say that it originates in Russia but is not made for or aimed at a Russian audience.

16. "This is the problem with our media."
We don't really have a media so much as celebrity-info profit centers. In any event, as Deep Throat said: "always follow the money."

All of the media is OWNED by entities who do not wish to pursue nor support a real press because that takes away from the profit margin and in these days should could result in long prison sentences by exposing the laws their parent companies are breaking on a daily basis.

"When Ben Bagdikian first published `The Media Monopoly' in 1982, some 50 corporations controlled most of the major media outlets in the United States: 1,787 daily newspapers; 11,000 magazines; 9,000 radio stations; 1,000 television stations; 2,500 book publishers and seven major movie studios. But the time the fourth edition was released in 1993, the number was down to about 20 corporations, and it is still dropping." ~Molly Ivins, columnist Ft. Worth Star Telegram

- Now it's down to about 10 major corporate entities who control pretty much all of what is euphemistically referred to as "news" from the major outlets/news sources. Keeping us abreast of all the latest news about Anna Nicole Smith's death, Paris Hilton's Chihuahua (I'm speaking of the dog), Lindsay Lohan's breakdowns and incarcerations and the primetime insights of Charlie Sheen's life-guide homilies that we can stomach......
