For first time, majority in US back gay marriage: poll
WASHINGTON (AFP) – For the first time in nearly a decade of polling, a majority of Americans say they are in favor of same-sex marriage, a survey released Friday showed.

Fifty-three percent of Americans support gay marriage, up more than 20 percentage points from a low of 32 percent in 2004, the poll of 1,005 adults conducted over four days last week for ABC News and the Washington Post found.

Gary Langer of Langer Research Associates, which produced the poll, called the findings a "milestone result that caps a dramatic, long-term shift in public attitudes."

Five years ago, only a majority of people younger than 30 supported gay marriage, but now majorities of those in their 30s and 40s do, the poll shows.

1. Does this mean Obama is going to change his stance again?

Since he seems to pay so much attention to the polls...

First he was for it, then against it, now...?

3. That's a good sign. I hope that legal same-sex marriage makes
serious progress soon. Sadly, the 2010 election in Minnesota gave control of both legislative houses to the Republicans, so that's right out here for the time being. Sometimes we Democrats just don't get it. We don't like the President, so we don't bother to vote in our local elections, or vote, but don't participate in GOTV activism. This is the result of that inaction. I saw it here last year when I tried to get people to help with GOTV in my precinct and district. I ended up walking the entire precinct pretty much by myself. It worked well, but it could have worked better.

4. in fairness,
before this poll came out, he was said to be rethinking his position on it. That's why the DOJ decided not lend their support for the Defense of Marriage Act. Am i remembering correctly?
